It’s fascinating actually. I always knew there was a mismatch between my body and my brain, but shoving this down and medicating my brain made me disassociate and suicidal. Meanwhile adjusting my body actually helped alleviate this distress caused by said mismatch.

De NOS gaat wéér de mist in door Imane Khelif consequent 'vrouw' en 'boksster' te noemen, terwijl dat onhoudbaar is op basis van de beschikbare feiten. We weten dat Khelif het SRY-gen heeft (op het Y-chromosoom, dat mannelijke ontwikkeling aanstuurt). Dat bevestigde Khelif namelijk zelf vorige maand in een interview: "Yes, and it’s natural." Khelif erkende ook dat ‘ze’ hormoonbehandelingen kreeg om ‘haar' testosteron te verlagen voor competities. Daarnaast zijn er gelekte rapporten die wijzen op een DSD zoals 5-ARD: genetisch mannelijk, maar bij de geboorte vaak als meisje geregistreerd door een vrouwelijk of ambigu ogend geslachtsdeel. Iemand met 5-ARD heeft dus interne testes en heeft géén baarmoeder of eierstokken. Ik zie de complexiteit voor Khelif. Als je zo opgroeit en zo door de omgeving als vrouw wordt gezien, kun je je daar terecht mee identificeren. Maar je sport met je lijf. En iemand die de mannelijke puberteit doormaakt ontwikkelt extra spiermassa en kracht, wat in boksen een duidelijk voordeel kan geven. Dus óók bij hormoononderdrukking. Khelif is dus geen 'vrouw met een afwijking', maar een man met een zeldzame stoornis (DSD). De NOS negeert dat consequent. "Ze moeten vrouwen beschermen, maar ze moeten er wel op letten dat ze daarbij geen andere vrouwen kwaad doen." Zegt 'ze' in het artikel. Trans women on HRT experience hot flashes, breast development, fat redistribution, and muscle atrophy that cis men simply don't. We're physically closer to cis women than our former selves. If you actually cared about "biological reality," you'd acknowledge hormones drive these characteristics, not chromosomes. You don't check anyone's karyotype before treating them as their observed sex. Treat trans women as women (because we are) and stop being an asshole.

@JoEllisReally Crime statistics disagree with you. Almost all perverse and violent behavior comes from men, and that is why there should be rules and laws in place to prevent and discourage ALL males from entering female spaces. How hard is this?

One thing I keep coming back to with bathroom bans is that removing trans women doesn’t remove risk. It only removes some perception of risk. Women can assault other women. Men can break the law regardless of signs on the door. Bad people don’t follow rules. In most areas of society, we accept that risk can’t be reduced to zero, so we punish wrongdoing instead of restricting everyone ahead of time. But in this debate, the standard sometimes becomes: if harm is possible, access should be restricted. That’s not how we handle risk anywhere else. Imagine driving privileges, guns, etc., all being handled that way?

🚨 The Olympics Committee is reportedly planning to ban transgender and intersex athletes from women's events completely. They'd also make all female athletes undergo genetic sex testing to compete. This is a huge reversal since they dropped universal sex testing after the 1996 Olympics and have avoided blanket transgender rules for years.
