in case there's a clear statement that Google does not care about handling open source for platform-tools correctly, we can just switch android-tools to Android release tags like I attempted to do here - github.com/nmeum/android-…

this is somewhat of a big deal as it basically blocks all Linux distros from releasing (mostly) up to date android-tools.

@MishaalRahman I tried to ask you about this on Discord, but you never replied: Is there any chance you can get some internal info whether Google completely abandoned tagging Android platform-tools? 35.0.2 is the last tagged release and nobody is replying on issue tracker.

@MishaalRahman @2net_software Don't care enough to sync AOSP, but LineageOS 21 lineage_gsi_arm64-eng target takes 1h27 to compile on [Ryzen 9 5900X; 128GB RAM; Force MP510 960GB] with ccache disabled.

Developers Sergio Prado and Chris Simmonds (@2net_software) did a talk recently about what's new in AOSP 14 (the open source release of Android 14), and to accompany the talk, Sergio shared some interesting statistics about the source code size, build time, and more. It's wild to see how much AOSP has grown since Android 8 Oreo's release in 2017. AOSP 14's source code size is 165GB compared to AOSP 8's 87GB. The build output size has gone up to 150GB with AOSP 14 versus 87GB with AOSP 8. Obviously build times can be optimized with better hardware, but we're well past the point where building on your own hardware makes sense. (I've built AOSP 13 locally with an 11th gen i7 + 32GB RAM + 1TB NVMe Windows PC via WSL a few times, and it's painful.) For those of you who build AOSP, what kind of hardware (local or cloud) do you currently use? How long does it take to compile a fresh build?

Next week I will get together with Chris Simmonds in a YouTube live chat to talk about AOSP 14! We will talk about the past, present and future of AOSP, what's new on AOSP 14 (from the platform's perspective), and answer questions from the chat. 😉🤖 youtube.com/watch?v=piMu4i…

@arter97 Yeah, it's just built from AOSP plus `patchelf --set-rpath '$ORIGIN'` so that deps can be in the same dir.

@arter97 It's linking directly to update_engine, so it should be in sync with it. Might just have to rebuild it every new major AOSP release in case Google adds a new command.

@_LuK1337_ Hey, do you happen to have handy a LOS19 build for kirin/I4113 signed with AOSP platform test-keys instead of Lineage's? It doesn't matter how old it is, as long as it boots it'd help me out. Thanks
