@JaceFrederick Wolves need them expansion teams so they can move to the East. Just dont think its possible to build a team good enough to win 2 series against OKC and San Antonio in a single run. Even if they did somehow, they'd be gassed and probably lose the Finals.

@TimGarrisonMN With the DDV injury I almost feel like they have to bring back Ayo because they have his Bird rights. I dont see any scenario where the Wolves are better without Ayo unless its a sign and trade for someone like Kyrie.

Now that the season is done, how are we feeling about an Ayo and Bones extension.

The maximum Minnesota can offer Ayo Dosunmu prior to free agency is a 3 year $52 million. If you remember, that’s a similar deal to what Naz signed for in 2023. Because the deal would clock in about $1.1 million above the mid level exception, I think offering Ayo a 2 year + a player option both keeps his options open for another payday, but also gives him a relatively fair value extension. It would also allow the Timberwolves to retain his bird rights and go over the salary cap to sign him on his next deal.& There’s a good chance he signs that veteran extension if Minnesota gives him a 3rd year player option.

@HPbasketball The trade put Ant&all the young guys in a winning culture which is important for the players, best era of Wolves ball. With how the West is, im not sure Rudy has a place on the Wolves if the goal is to win a title. SA&OKC aren't going anywhere & he wasnt a factor in either series

The Gobert trade remains a failure, same as it always was. Franchises get 2-3 players EVER like Ant. The only goal once you get one is to win a title. At no point ever for one second were the Wolves serious title contenders with Rudy, and the investment set the team back years.

@rn2mx @HPbasketball Idk man, unless this #2 pick is a superstar they're probably not gonna be better than they were when they had DMitch & Rudy. So they traded their young superstar and have nobody close to as good as he was. Wouldn't say they crushed it. They're in a position to be competitive

@_Mast3rC @HPbasketball Keep the Jazz out of your mouth. Not only were they steadily competitive across multiple permutations over the last few decades, but they crushed this rebuild in a relatively swift manner. Jazz are the model to follow, not a cautionary tale.

So... I just don't know if that's the right approach. Like, does that mean trading Ant? Because you may not get a player as good as him for another 15 years. Trading everyone for picks and taking two gap years? That's wasting two years of his career and the Jazz are the only team willing to do that.
I think you try and find deals that make sense to reconfigure while your picks restock.

@HPbasketball Think its more they hammer teams that dont have true rim protection. Anytime they play teams that have rim protection they lose. OKC, Dallas, and now San Antonio.

The work he has to do to get shots, with non-shooting outlets, nobody else who can handle the ball, a roller who can’t catch, finish, pass or dribble, and a second option who doesn’t help maximize him at all and actively hurts his game.
I find it hard to be too harsh on him.

I think there’s plenty of things to be critical of Ant about. Defensive engagement, processing as a playmaker etc — although they do fall on deaf ears a smidge on this series with his health — but this is the worst offensive ecosystem a star player could ever be cursed with.

@JonKrawczynski Finch refusing to change the lineup to start the 3rd killed their momentum. The starters burned them again offensively and Finch chose to prioritize egos and feelings over trying to win the game, disappointing hes that afraid of his players.

I don’t think Gobert works in the Kornet minutes, either. The best way to get at these lineups is to thrive offensively with Wemby off. Can’t do that with Gobert. Roster construction has just ran out of options.

Spurs' core trio lives at the rim, generates tons of 2nd chances, secures the defensive glass, can all create as passers and each is a good-to-world-destroying defender. Such a stellar, harmonic group excelling in crucial areas (unpadded and padded lineup data).
