@bryce_spalding It’s going to be better, but my worry is that it still doesn’t match the same level as some of the other competitors. They just weren’t able to put it all together last year and still made the playoffs, but they didn’t do much while other teams reloaded and got much better

the Reds scored 2 or less runs in 54 of 162 games. that's 32% of their games and went 9-45 in those games. That means they went 74-34 when they just scored 3+ runs. Even if their pitching regresses a bit, which I have my doubts on, too, their offense is going to be SIGNIFICANTLY better.

I still have not seen anyone provide legitimate reasoning as to why a team who got better in nearly every way, and underperformed their pythag W/L in 2025 is going to regress from 83 wins to 77-79 that everyone keeps projecting.

Disagree. I do not remember fans complaining about other viable candidates when Brannen and Wes were hired. Wes was graded an A by most pundits. Brannen was highly thought of due to his success at NKU. Bit of revisionist history you’re pushing, Mo. Still, Calhoun is the best possible hire at this time.

Jerrod has a lot of work in front of him. All new coaches do. Hell, in this environment all established coaches do. What I like about this particular hire compared to the last two is that in 2019 and 2021 there seemed to be more noise about who wasn’t hired and who was mad about who wasn’t hired than the person who actually got the job. Maybe that wasn’t an impediment to either coach’s success, but it wasn’t helpful either. Also, this timing is so much better. It’s not early-mid April. Doesn’t seem like a staff will have to be quickly cobbled together. Feels like the portal and roster construction can be attacked with a plan (and a GM already in place) instead grabbing whichever players will say yes because the new coach and his staff is playing catch up. I’m excited and optimistic.

Calhoun is going to be great walking the sidelines at UC. Offense is great. Lots of ball/body movement and paint touches. And he gets the history of the program and understands that the UC vs x is a rivalry and not just another game.
