For 300 years, a single tree stood alone in the heart of the Sahara. The most isolated tree on earth. The only tree for 250 miles in any direction. In 1973, a truck driver hit it. The Tree of Ténéré was so significant that it was one of the only trees ever marked on a map drawn at a scale of 1:4,000,000. In a desert the size of a continent, cartographers felt it was too important to leave off. Caravans navigated by it. Tuareg nomads considered it sacred. The Tuareg people who passed it on their journeys never used it for firewood or allowed their camels to graze on it. In a desert where survival demanded using everything available, this single tree was left completely untouched out of reverence. During a dig near the tree in 1938, researchers found that its roots had reached the water table 33 to 36 metres below the surface. In 1973, a Libyan truck driver, reportedly drunk, followed the old caravan route and drove directly into the trunk. His name was never released. The impact shattered the acacia beyond recovery. The remains were taken to the National Museum of Niger in Niamey, where they are still kept today.

🚨 SHOCKING moment a driver was caught going the WRONG WAY down the A27 towards the A23 yesterday 😳 The 70mph dual carriageway could have turned into a scene of devastation within seconds. Dashcam footage shows just how close this came to ending in tragedy. #A27 #Dashcam #DangerousDriving Credit - @montysmugs

Go on then, have a Lamborghini Fenomeno Roadster reveal video. Zero to 62mph takes 2.4 seconds and top speed is 211mph. CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic brakes use tech from Lamborghini’s LMDh hypercar racer.  Bridgestone has developed two types of bespoke tyre for the car, too.

Audi RS3, any RS3 ever. You instantly know this car. 2.5L turbo inline-five, EA835 and its been the same since 2011, 15 years of Audi RS3 and soon its going to go away. Best recognized by the distinct sound of the 5 cylinder that is unique on its own. Nothing else sounds like it sounding closer to a baby V10. That engine alone made the RS3 famous.

NEW: Police airlift a crocodile with the body of a 59-year-old businessman inside. Local police in South Africa say they suspected the crocodile ate the man after observing it from drones. They then shot it and airlifted it off. When they landed back on the ground, the crocodile was sliced open, and human remains were found. The remains are believed to be those of 59-year-old Gabriel Batista, who had previously been swept away in raging floodwaters. His ring was found inside the animal along with six other pairs of shoes, which authorities fear may belong to other victims. On Monday, Batista reportedly tried to drive over a flooded bridge to reach his hotel and bar, but he and his truck were swept into the water. He was then swept down the river, where crocodiles were waiting for prey. It is unclear if Batista was already deceased when he was eaten, but authorities believe some of his other remains may have been eaten by other crocodiles.

Jessie Peterson was a 31-year-old woman from California who had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 10. On April 6, 2023, she was admitted to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Sacramento after suffering a diabetic episode. Two days later she called her mother, Ginger Congi, asking to be picked up from the hospital. That phone call was the last time her family heard from her. When her mother called the hospital three days later she was told there was no one there by that name. After persisting, she was informed that Jessie had left against the advice of her doctors. The family had no reason to disbelieve this and launched a frantic search, filing a missing persons report with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, posting flyers across the city, and having her name added to the US Department of Justice missing persons website. What the family did not know was that the day after Jessie's death, the hospital had transferred her body to an offsite cold storage facility, where she was placed on shelf number Red 22 A and forgotten. Her death certificate was not filed for 362 days, despite California law requiring it within 15 hours of a patient's death. More than a year after her death, a Sacramento County Sheriff's detective called the family to inform them a death certificate had been issued. A mortuary then contacted Jessie's mother to say her body had been found at one of the hospital's offsite cold storage facilities. By this point her body had decomposed too much for an autopsy, meaning the family will never fully know what happened to her in her final hours.

While the world moves toward hybridisation and heavy tech, the BMW M5 CS remains the undisputed king of the internal combustion era. 627 horsepower, 104kg of weight savings, and a sub-3-second 0-100 km/h that defies physics. It’s not just a super-sedan; it’s a supercar in a tailored suit. Is this the greatest M car ever made?
