I just got a fine in the post because my teenage daughter had the seatbelt under her arm. $2115 It's not a fine that she wasn't wearing her seatbelt, it's that she didn't wear it right. Britain has not banned drilling in the North Sea. That is simply not accurate. What has been debated politically is whether to issue new exploration licences, which is very different from banning production. There are already hundreds of existing licences in UK waters. Companies operating those licences can continue to develop fields, drill wells and produce oil and gas. Production in the UK North Sea is still running at roughly 1.2 to 1.4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. Several major projects are either producing or being developed right now, including fields such as Clair Ridge, Culzean, Penguins and Rosebank. That does not look much like a country that has banned drilling. Norway is often cited as a comparison, but the situation is not identical. Norway built a very large sovereign wealth fund from decades of production, and it has continued to issue exploration licences regularly. The UK, by contrast, developed its North Sea resources earlier and has already produced a larger share of its recoverable reserves. Many of our largest fields were discovered in the 1970s and 1980s and are now naturally declining. That geological reality matters. Britain today produces around half of the oil and gas it consumes, which is broadly similar to where Norway was decades ago before its production peaked. Even with new licences, UK output would still decline gradually because the basin is mature. None of this means the UK should ignore domestic production. Maintaining sensible North Sea output supports jobs, tax revenues and energy resilience. But it is important to keep the facts straight. The UK has not banned drilling, and existing North Sea production continues at significant scale.

Norway drills the North Sea & gets richer. Britain BANS drilling, taxes the industry to death, sacks 1,000 workers a month, then buys the SAME oil & gas from Norway. Same seabed. Same reservoirs. It's the DUMBEST act of economic self-harm imaginable. We are being Governed by IDIOTS🇬🇧
