Frenkie de Jong delivered a world-class performance today and sent an important message to Barcelona: “Sign a proper defensive midfielder to play alongside me.”
We already know what makes Frenkie special. He’s elite at carrying the ball out from deep under pressure, and there are very few players in the world who can take the ball off him once he gets going.
But what we saw today was a bit different.
Frenkie put in an outstanding defensive display and pressed aggressively all game long—something we rarely get to see from him at Barcelona. He was the one accelerating the tempo with quick, sharp short passes and constantly keeping the team moving forward.
His numbers were impressive:
3 tackles
3 duels won
7 ball recoveries
9 passes into the final third
Honestly, this guy just needs a true defensive midfielder next to him. Give him that balance, and you’ll see an absolutely terrifying version of Frenkie de Jong.

It’s funny how for the past year, every time Cubarsí vs Huijsen got brought up, Madrid fans kept repeating the same lines: “He benched Cubarsí for Spain” or “Ask De La Fuente”
They spent months flexing Huijsen starting in glorified friendlies and qualifier games, only for the actual World Cup to arrive and Cubarsí is the one going while Huijsen watches from home.
Karma is beautiful sometimes.

@barca1899stats Dembele did his in half a season though from December to end of season

❗️Barcelona has more priorities, such as the striker and winger positions. We have to wait and see what they do around a CB. Their spending also depends on potential exits. @FabrizioRomano #Transfers ☎️

@DisTurB____ Mourinho coached the Tottenham team that conceded six goals to flicks bayern. In their on stadium
English

@IhejirikaS48939 Very true . I feel like at RW he doesn't complicate stuff or overthink anything
English

@_Osei531 Because at LW he’s told to be Neymar, which he simply isn’t
English

@setpieceking You're aware same simeone beat Enrique with msn and busquet Iniesta rakitic midfield 2x in different ucl seasons ?
English

@geminithestrika I blame raphinha for all this nonsense. Had he stayed fit. Atletico and arsenal would have easily been done. The disrespect on flick really hurts. People forget setien and koeman days. Or even xavi 2nd season.
English

@_pels_ @UgoOsinobi The act as if they're better than the sporting director. We were all here when everyone wanted nico instead of Diaz. Roque was 40mil and kvara is 70 lol
English

@UgoOsinobi Una go just Dey talk like say you Dey beer parlor. Napoli is not going to take installments and Vitor Roque money was literally recovered in the next window.
English

@davestowe_ Same Enrique who got sacked by the Spanish national team and got eliminated by atletico 2x with msn ? Same or different guy ?

I think it’s really cynical how the narratives work from within our own fanbase.
After 23/24 literally everyone thought we were going to go through a period of historic humiliation at the hands of Madrid, we have been operating with our hands tied behind our back financially for like 5 years, our stadium has been under construction for 3 years, making even simple signings has proven to require a Herculean effort from the club.
With this context, what this team is doing RIGHT NOW is more than what anyone expected from us in this time, yet there is a nontrivial portion of the fanbase that thinks 5 trophies in 2 seasons is somehow unacceptable or insufficient.
There are weaknesses in the squad and in the coaching, this is true with any team in Europe. No team is perfect. But teams that are developing need patience, they need direction, and they need support from the club and the fanbase. If you want to praise Arsenal for anything, it’s that they gave their coach and their team what it needed to get to where it is now and it took them 6 years under Arteta to get here.
Be patient, trust the club, be a fucking FAN of the club not a cynic waiting for the next failure to pen your think pieces, and enjoy the process through the ups and downs. That’s what being a fan of a real club is about, if you’re unwilling to accept the lows that come with the highs, go support Madrid or something.
English

@CHIZZY__TK @ik_fiinn What about the million chances rashford missed ? Or kounde allowing his man to easily beat him and make a cross to sorloth. Are all those faults of highline ?
English

Xavi was easily beating Simeone back to back, even with how mid he was.
The highline is really good, man but there are some games we have to drop it
Jay@JustKobby98
I can tell you for a fact that most team trash us with ease due to our Highline. It’s helped us in most cases but we are pathetically vulnerable especially when we meet a team with players who have much pace. Just look at how mid Atico is against teams with no Highline. 🤦🏾♂️
English

@BarcaUniversal It's not sensible to pay too much for a winger who will play as second fiddle to raphinha. Its better he gets a young player with potential like the ayax one
English

🚨 JUST IN: Barcelona’s shortlist for the left-wing position:
• Anthony Gordon: Premier League-proven winger with intensity, pace and work rate. Newcastle want around €85M
• Víctor Muñoz: One of La Liga’s breakout stars this season. Real Madrid still hold key rights over him.
• Jan Virgili: Former La Masia talent now shining at Mallorca. Barça retain part of his rights.
• Mika Godts: Ajax wonderkid with flair, creativity and goal threat. Barça scouts watched him vs PSV.
• Andreas Schjelderup: Highly-rated Benfica winger with huge technical quality and potential.
• Ez Abde: Explosive dribbler thriving at Betis. Barça still own 20% of his rights.

@BouafifNour I honestly don't think we bottled it. Im still heavy on referee decisions.
English

And just like that, Arsenal find themselves in the UCL final, just one game away from winning it. Fair play to them. You can laugh at their route, but we had that same opportunity and didn’t capitalize on it, while they did.
I know Bayern or PSG will be the heavy favorites in the final, but it’s just one game. Anything can happen.
We really bottled that easy path, and yeah, it hurts.
