Is it possible that that AI’s insatiable demand for energy and it's ability to produce intelligence could finally crack fusion??? This happened before. As explored at Risk & Progress, the Newcomen Steam engine drove demand for coal, while also making it possible to automatically pump water from mines, enabling us to mine more coal. The history of technology is often defined by feedback loops and ASI/Fusion look like a tight pair.

@DAaronovitch It’s not on the table - I wouldn’t take the risk for him. It’s a horrible state of affairs but there’s no good answer. I went to a private school (in Glasgow) and was part of a small Jewish group. I think it will only be the preserve of private going forward
