Sadly one of the good parts is only marginally true, to say that the FTA with India opens up a 1.4 Billion market is a misnomer. India is rated as one of the poorest countries in the world and so realistically at best we are talking about 20-30 million of the ultra rich, a long way from 1.4 Billion

Actually Parmjeet, we aren’t against free trade or free trade agreements. As you know it was literally in NZF coalition agreement to look at FTAs and specifically an FTA with India. What we are against are bad Free Trade Agreements that are not in NZs best interests. If you talk about the good parts you have to talk about the bad parts Parmjeet. NZFirst has highlighted from day one the reasons this deal is bad. Here’s the real “bad” part - the Indian FTA that YOU voted for includes UNDRIP and Paris Accord clauses…what was it you said…”better to watch what people do instead of what they say”. Indeed.

"Yesterday, houses were burnt in broad daylight in kanto sabal while residents are sitting helplessly in relief camps.
The most shocking part - this happened just around 50 meters from the 18th Punjab Regiment Central Forces post stationed here.
When asked, the forces on ground could not give any answer for how this happened.
I requested them to call the concerned officer so we could give a statement to Union Minister Shri Ramdas Athawale . They refused to respond.
Yesterday also, our Hon’ble MP visited and asked the concerned officer to come out. No one came.
Irrespective of political party, he is our MP. If even he is ignored, then who will the people go to?
Protecting life and property is the basic duty of security forces. No excuses.
If homes continue to burn right under the nose of deployed forces, then the failure is theirs. The blame cannot be shifted to the people."

Lok Sabha MP Akoijam Bimol has expressed strong condemnation against security forces for their alleged irresponsibility in handling the Kanto Sabal arson incident.
