@CMShehbaz @smrtriz @MohamedBinZayed Mr Prime Minister, your message of outrage and support is understandable but by saying this publicly you are putting your mediation role in jeopardy. For the mediator silence is important because you want to be seen as totally neutral by all parties to facilitate a peace deal.
English

Pakistan strongly condemns the missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates last night. I express full solidarity with His Highness @MohamedBinZayed. Pakistan stands firmly with our Emirati brothers and sisters as well as with the Government of the United Arab Emirates at this difficult time. It is absolutely essential that the ceasefire be upheld and respected, to allow necessary diplomatic space for dialogue leading to enduring peace and stability in the region.
English

@OunkaOnX The solution is easy if one can come out of the big beautiful ego shell. Send a more professional group of negotiators to Islamabad (not the same odd couple) and give them no preconditions to agree to a deal and not take Netanyahu’s phone calls until the peace agreement is signed

David Ignatius: Presidents avoided war with Iran for 47 years. Iran is big, wily, smart. No easy exits. Trump blew through his briefings. Thought Iran would be like Venezuela - show up, capitulate, done.
Now he's stuck. No one's rushing to help. And he's learning about unanticipated consequences the hard way

Pleased to announce that twenty-two crew members from the seized Iranian container vessel, “MV Touska”, have been safely evacuated to Pakistan.
The individuals were safely flown in Pakistan last night and will be transferred to Iran today. The Iranian ship is also being backloaded to Pakistani territorial waters for its return to its original owners after necessary repairs.
These actions are being coordinated with the support of both the Iranian and the US authorities and surely constitute an important confidence-building measure.
Pakistan expresses its appreciation to the United States and Iran, and remains committed to facilitating dialogue, diplomacy, and mediation for the regional peace and security.

The sudden and untimely controversy over the residential status of #1 Constitution Ave apartments raises an important question. What message is the Government of Pakistan giving to its expats who are thinking to relocate their real estate investments from the UAE to Pakistan.
English

@AsadAToor @CMShehbaz Not a fair comparison. No one should allow a residential building on the most prestigious official site of the capital overlooking all sensitive buildings. It is a major security risk. Instead of this you might do some research on the owners of these apartments.
English

🚨🚨
This is the difference in this country between 240 million Pakistanis and a bunch of elite cartel, PM @CMShehbaz immediately listen cries of the elite and made committee to review the constitution one matter but he never bothered to make any committee on thousands of families living in slums and under privileged housing (few meters away from his PM office, around Bari Imam) of #Islamabad and effected by CDA, ruthlessly demolishing their homes!

@Khurram85881594 @SanaullahDawn Very true. This is typical of all building control authorities in Pakistan. They allow illegal buildings to be built by taking underhand bribes and leave the files blank so that when a court questions the legality of the building, there is noting to show officials were involved.

Big Breaking.

@AhsanUlHaqRajp3 @SanaullahDawn Don’t demolish. Compensate present owners at market value and sell the property to a hotel chain as a Suite Hotel. It will also generate good competition with the Serena and Hashwani Groups. Some tenants might rehire the suites from the new hotel management.

@nadeemhaque @SanaullahDawn Were there no prior notices received from the competent authorities? Apparently social Jesus posts claim there were many reminders sent in the past. Who can be more informed than you and as a witness whether during the year any notices were sent or nothing was sent or received.

I rent at One Constitution Avenue. Last night, at around 1 AM, I was jolted awake by aggressive banging on my door. My heart raced — I initially feared thieves or intruders had broken in. When I stepped out, I was confronted by nearly 50 heavily armored police officers, rude and visibly ready to beat us up if we resisted. They did not deny it was a forced eviction.
The security staff and police showed no court order, no legal documents, and offered no explanation. They merely barked instructions: vacate the premises by 12 noon today. Only in the morning did I learn that this midnight raid was supposedly backed by a court order. Why am I not surprised? This is precisely what we have come to expect from Pakistan’s “protocol courts.”
The building has been in legal dispute for over 20 years. During all this time, the courts allowed people to buy apartments, invest their hard-earned money, and rent them out lawfully. Tenants like me exercised our individual property rights and tenancy rights in good faith. Now, all of a sudden, without any prior notice, hearing, or reason, they want us to vacate overnight. What court in the world issues such an order — authorizing 50 armed policemen to raid a residential building at 1 AM, treating law-abiding citizens like criminals?
I called several journalists, but none showed interest. There should have been TV crews and radio teams here to document this injustice. Our judges appear to be uneducated protocol seekers rather than guardians of justice and the Constitution.
Is this judgment lawful in any manner? Even if an eviction were technically legal after 20 years of disputes, should it ever be executed in such a brutal, inhumane, and overnight fashion — without basic dignity, due process, or time for residents to arrange alternatives? This sets a terrifying precedent for every tenant and property owner in the country. Property rights are being trampled, and ordinary citizens are left helpless.
What is it about judges hate for buildings. ?

@AndrewFeinberg Possibly because the man did not have the courage to identify himself as having this as his middle name because he wanted votes.

@shumayl_aziz @salmanmasood Too much info squeezed in one tweet word limit. Needs elaboration to understand the issue for those who are not familiar with the shenanigans of this strange and the only high-rise building on Isloo’s most prestigious avenue.
English

@salmanmasood BNP defaulted. You paid in full. CDA took your home. IHC’s ‘sink or sail’ drowned innocent buyers. But English law, India’s SC & Pakistan’s own Article 24 agree: you cannot punish the innocent. Move SC. Demand compensation.
English

Police moved in heavily at One Constitution Avenue in Islamabad's Red Zone in the dead of night to enforce a court order tied to the long-running ownership and legality disputes around the luxury high-rise.
The law may be against the builders, and so be it. But enforcing it doesn't mean ditching basic decency. Rolling in at 1 a.m. and pushing 200-plus families out, many of them tenants and several foreign nationals, with little or no fair notice, is brute force disguised as procedure.
Tenants have rights too. This was enforcement stripped of judgment and humanity. A poor look for a state so fixated on polished optics.
Unless the High Court specifically ordered evacuation within 12 hours, why was no reasonable notice given? Where were foreign and local tenants supposed to go at 1 a.m., and what were they meant to do with their belongings? Even local residents would struggle to round up movers or trucks into the Red Zone at that hour.
If the legal case was years in the making, the least the authorities could have managed was a competent, humane plan for carrying it out. The execution was a shambles.
— Message from a friend about whats going on at One Constitution Avenue right now.
English

@JurisProfessor @salmanmasood I am sorry your comparison is not correct here. This post is about fundamental security and peace of mind of families in their own home who are not involved in politics but simply going about their business without causing any nuisance or disruption to anyone.
English

You’re crying over 'basic decency' for the elite residents of One Constitution Avenue, but where was your 'decency' when the Form 47 regime was abducting political workers in the dead of night? Where was your 'judgment' when the Public Mandate was being looted? You talk about 'brute force disguised as procedure'. That is the perfect description of this Neo-Nazi regime you’ve been polishing for months. You only care about this 'shambles' because the people being evicted are the judges, generals, and bureaucrats who make up your social circle. If this were a katchi abadi, you’d call it 'encroachment removal'. But since it’s a luxury high-rise for the elite, you call it a 'human rights violation'. Stop the performative outrage. The only thing truly stripped of humanity is your selective journalism. Absolutely pathetic.
English

@salmanmasood Very true. This behaviour is unacceptable unless there were several notices served to the residents of the building to vacate it about which we do not know at this stage without further information from CDA or other competent authorities. The rich have their share of misery too.
English

@ZahidGishkori Is this a temporary security measure or new ruling to convert it into a hotel for healthy competition with the Serena group. If latter, the present owners should be adequately compensated from the money raised from investors who will buy it to operate it as a suite hotel.

@Knesix With this surprise announcement right in the middle of the biggest energy crisis in the GCC region faced with a dangerous war which is not theirs, the Emirates have stabbed their other oil producing Arab partners with a dagger that can be best described as ‘greed for money’.
English

The UAE’s decision to exit OPEC and OPEC+ is a high-stakes pivot into a New Energy World Order.
Here's my breakdown of the UAE’s move, the game theory at play, and why they might know something about Iran's real circumstances that nobody else knows.
1. The Strategic Solo Run (Game Theory 101)
Imagine you’re in a group chat with a bunch of neighbors. For fifty years, the rule has been: “We all agree to grow only three tomatoes each, so tomatoes stay expensive and we all stay rich.” This is OPEC. It’s less of a "club" and more of a synchronized hoarding agreement.
And the UAE has just left that chat.
• The Logic: The UAE has spent billions boosting its production capacity to 5 million barrels per day. Under OPEC+ rules, they were essentially being told to leave that expensive machinery gathering dust.
• The Independent Path: By leaving, the UAE is no longer bound by group quotas. They are betting that they can maximize their own volume while Saudi Arabia and the others feel forced to keep their own production low just to prevent a total price collapse. It’s an independent actor strategy. They're prioritizing national revenue over collective price-fixing.
The Game Theory part is that the UAE is betting on other OPEC and OPEC+ countries staying (If EVERY country leaves, the resulting oil glut would crash oil prices and could be catastrophic for the energy industry worldwide)
2. The Iranian Energy Vacuum
But why leave now, in the middle of a war? Because Iran’s energy industry is in a state of terminal distress.
• The Burn Reports: Multiple sources indicate Iran is literally burning its own crude at the wellhead because they can’t export it (the Strait of Hormuz is closed) and they can't stop the drills without permanently damaging the reservoirs.
• The Opportunity: The UAE likely sees this as the end of Iran as a major market competitor for years to come. They are moving to fill that supply gap permanently. While Iran’s industry is going up in smoke, the UAE is positioning itself as the only stable, high capacity alternative in the region.
3. The Saudi and Trump Factors
This is a massive diplomatic read-between-the-lines moment.
• The Saudi Rift: Relations with Riyadh have turned frosty since the coalition breakdown in Yemen. The UAE is tired of Saudi Arabia calling the shots on oil prices while also competing for the same foreign investment.
• The US Alliance: Trump has consistently called for more supply to lower gas prices. By exiting OPEC, the UAE is aligning itself directly with Washington’s energy abundance agenda. In exchange for lower prices, the UAE likely expects heightened US security guarantees, which are crucial given the current war and how Iran has attacked them relentlessly.
4. The Fujairah Bypass Advantage
While most Gulf oil is trapped behind the contested Strait of Hormuz, the UAE has a geographic cheat code.
• The Habshan–Fujairah pipeline allows them to pump oil directly to the Indian Ocean, skipping the war zone entirely.
• By leaving OPEC, they are selling "Safe Oil" that doesn't have to navigate a naval battleground.
The Bottom Line:
The UAE is gambling that the era of cooperative hoarding is over. They are betting that in a world of war and energy transitions, the winner isn't the one who waits for the group, but the one who moves the fastest to monetize their resources.
And they're all in in the highest-stakes game theory bet of recent times.

English

@EvanWritesOnX Greed begets greed. It is unlikely that UAE will sell cheaper oil to its buyers or affect global oil prices. No single country can change the way the cartel operates.
English

The UAE just quit OPEC today and the official reason is a lie.
UAE says it left because the GCC failed to protect it during the recent Iran war.
That is the convenient story for the region.
The real reason is simpler and far bigger.
The UAE has spent years preparing to break free from the cartel's production quotas.
It built new oil capacity, launched its own crude benchmark, expanded ADNOC's trading arm, listed energy assets on markets, and locked in direct deals with Asian buyers.
None of those moves fit a country planning to stay loyal to Saudi-led discipline.
The timing was perfect.
The April 7 ceasefire gave a clean diplomatic window.
Trump is back in the White House and hates OPEC.
The UAE joined BRICS in 2024 and now operates as a true hinge state, balancing ties with everyone from China to Israel without picking sides.
All this breaks OPEC+ for good.
Saudi Arabia can either match the UAE's surge and crash prices, wrecking its own Vision 2030 plans, or cut deeper and watch market share vanish.
Either way, the old coordination that kept prices high is finished. Smaller members will follow. Russia loses leverage. Iran actually wins from the softer price floor.
The biggest winner is the UAE itself.
It gains full control of its oil weapon, faster cash from reserves, and even more strategic freedom. Asian buyers get cheaper barrels. Trump gets the cheap-energy headline he loves.
Saudi Arabia takes the heaviest hit. But this was pre-agreed between Saudi and UAE as part of their broader regional agreements and carve ups.
The UAE has quietly outgrown the old Saudi-centric order, and the Iran excuse made the break politically safe.
English

@ErikSperling Please tell this fellow to get a mediator who suites his wish list. And if they don’t succeed in finding one then don’t forget to thank Pakistan for making a sincere effort. Mediation is an unpaid and thankless job. Those who are making billions in this war do not want to end it
English

Iran Parliament Spox for NatSec/FP Cmte. says Pakistan is "not a suitable intermediary for negotiations and lacks the necessary credibility"
Cites several examples of US backtracking e.g. Lebanon, blocked assets
"A mediator must be impartial, not always leaning to one side"
