Cambodia's Calculated Clash: New York Times Reveals Evidence of Premeditated Aggression Against Thailand In June 2025, weeks before the Thailand-Cambodia clash, six Chinese Y-20s worth of rocket launcher rounds & artillery shells were airlifted to Sihanoukville and rushed to the border provinces of Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear. Lt. Gen. Rath Dararoth, Cambodia's defense secretary, claimed they were for the annual exercise with China's PLA, which had in fact ended weeks earlier in late May. Peter Bouckaert, an analyst with Fortify Rights confirmed through battlefield evidence that "everything we saw that was being put into the rocket launchers were Chinese rockets," underscoring the premeditated integration of these weapons into Cambodia's operation. Cambodia's preparation extended beyond weapon shipments, with a potential artillery base built east of the Preah Vihear temple. Nathan Ruser, an analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute noted unified border fortifications as evidence of deliberate military planning by Cambodia's leadership. Hangyu Lee, a researcher at Armed Conflict Location & Event Data stated, “It remains clear that Cambodia’s military buildup was significantly more proactive than Thailand’s", in contrast, Thailand was "largely reactive and defensive", to keep pace with Cambodian activity, underscoring Cambodia's premeditated aggression. This proactive stance, combined with rapid Chinese weapons resupply weeks before the conflict illustrates Cambodia's deliberate aggression.

@nypost Even if troops were inside Preah Vihear Temple with small arms, international law (Geneva Conventions) only allows strictly necessary, proportionate, minimal force, so bombing the entire temple is illegal and unjustifiable.

@nypost Under the Geneva Conventions, attacks must be strictly necessary, proportionate, and minimize damage, so since Cambodia did not use Preah Vihear Temple for heavy artillery, Thailand would have no legal justification to bomb the entire temple.

Yes, true. Especially Lao and Cambodians (a good chunk of thailand speaks Lao) are culturally similar.. However, interestingly many Burmese don’t speak any Thai and are still working in shops etc. I wonder if this bothers people. i am not sure how similar the culture is. Myanmar has a very different history - though they are Buddhist.

Thailand has demographically peaked and its human capital is mid. It's not going to become rich the classical way. I think it should consider opening up its economy to the masses of long-term digital nomads who make it their de facto home. Having them is better than not having them, but restricting them to teaching locals English, spending their money on $3 Pad Thais, and otherwise legally forbidding them from working for local clients is suboptimal. Allowing at least the long-term nomads to fully participate in the domestic economy seems like a no brainer.

And yet Thailand has achieved the exceptional and the unthinkable. It has an aging population and an extremely low total fertility rate, with a still intermediate level of wealth, without being a technological power. The country is aging before it has fully caught up with developed nations. A unique case in the world.

@okaythenfuture @akarlin Thailand also has a higher share of other migrants (mostly from neighboring countries) compared to Japan or Korea. They opened up earlier and tolerate a higher level of immigration than most other Asian countries.

🇫🇷 A French sailor inadvertently revealed the location of an aircraft carrier by running on deck while wearing a smartwatch. On March 13, a French Navy officer ran on the ship’s deck wearing a smartwatch that synced activity data to the Strava app. Because the sailor’s profile was public, his location became visible online in real time. Journalists from Le Monde were able to pinpoint the carrier group’s position, northwest of Cyprus. The French Ministry of Armed Forces acknowledged the incident, stating that crew members’ actions were outside official protocols.

@KHAMCHANH Except the lax immigration policies of the past which once encouraged assimilation and naturalisation had evolved into a restrictive one since the mid-20th century. Effectively mirroring the UAE, importing large amounts of migrant labour but generally less immigrants & citizens.

Thailand today continues to import migrant workers from other Asian countries. But it’s not a new thing. The mass import of neighboring populations has been a Thai policy for nearly a thousand years.

If we are referring to descendants of Ayutthaya, the Thai Siamese only make up 30% of Thailand’s population today. Before Europeans arrived and the modern concept of immigration, Thailand had always imported populations of neighboring countries, sometimes with the use of force.

@Yussoonn_ At this rate Thailand will import other Asian immigrants to replace the Thai population

From the protection of the Hun dictators down to local police & admin. supporting its shadow economy of gambling dens & scam centres, owners were promised the peace of mind & passport. An industry of trafficked victims, torture, forced defrauding, and the defrauded worth billions
Bloomberg@business

In Southeast Asia, tens of thousands of workers have been trafficked into prisonlike scam centers, forced to persuade people around the world to plow money into fake investments or send funds to imaginary romantic partners. Until recently, the inner workings of these compounds were mysterious. But late last year, the Thai military took control of a major scam complex in Cambodia during military clashes along the countries’ shared border. U.S. launches Section 301 probe into 16 trading partners, including Thailand The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a new round of trade investigations targeting 16 trading partners, including Thailand, over alleged unfair trade practices and industrial overcapacity, a move that could lead to new tariffs. The probe, announced on March 11 in Washington, D.C., will be conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and could result in tariffs as early as this summer, according to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Major economies under scrutiny include China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea and Mexico. Other economies being investigated are Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Switzerland and Norway, while Canada was not included. U.S. officials say many of the targeted economies run large and persistent trade surpluses with the United States, which Washington argues reflects policies that disadvantage American manufacturers. Greer said the investigation will examine structural industrial overcapacity, including government subsidies, underutilised manufacturing capacity, weak labour and environmental standards and non-market practices by state-owned enterprises. The administration has set a relatively fast timeline for the probe, with public comments open until April 15 and a hearing expected around May 5. U.S. officials aim to complete the investigations before temporary tariffs announced by Trump in late February expire in July, after the Supreme Court of the United States struck down earlier global tariffs imposed under emergency powers. Tariffs currently set at about 10% could rise to 15% or higher for some countries depending on the results of the investigations, according to U.S. officials. #Thailand #US #Trade #TrumpTariffs #ภาษีทรัมป์
