One million percent. I think it comes from a combo of things -- financial incentives (consultants seeking profit or people satisfying donors, or both), anxiety about being seen as wrong by your peers, & a deep internalization of the stakes & consequences (which is fair, but also, fear is not a great excuse!)

@Xenoimpulse (I say this as a user of the tech) the effort to convince me that it's real is odd since it doesnt matter anyway? If the singularity is real who cares about convincing anyone about AI, its simply is. But people are trying sooooo hard to the point where it makes me suspicious.
