Big news from the football committee yesterday: Belmont High School will receive a postseason ban in 2026. Belmont was scheduled to play Revere in a non-playoff game and had the option to take a bye week before the game was officially set. Instead, they chose to schedule the game but then later backed out, leaving Revere without an opponent. Because Belmont declined the bye and canceled anyway, the move violated football committee rules, resulting in the postseason ban. The Marauders finished 0–9 in 2025, but many were still frustrated by the decision, as the consequences were known ahead of time.

Just heard two hosts on a Boston “sports” radio station say no one wants to talk about college football in Boston. Really? The 2nd most popular sport in the nation which will generate HUGE ratings in the playoffs and you can’t find five minutes to discuss? Interesting.

Being a high school multi-sport athlete should be encouraged, not discouraged. As a varsity coach, I support players competing in other sports. The problem isn’t multi-sport participation—it’s coaches expecting year-round priority. That’s control, not development.
