"The irony is, right now, we're emailing millions of customers saying their energy prices are going to fall..." Greg Jackson, CEO of Octopus Energy, says energy prices could be impacted if disruption in the Strait of Hormuz "is not over quite quickly". #Newsnight

Not a study, not a survey - but the actual live data from every @OctopusEnergy Cosy heat pump installed in real homes is now online. And it shows that over 80% of Cosy heat pumps were cheaper to run than a gas boiler over the last year and delivered a COP of 3.7 over the whole year (about 4.3x more efficient than a gas boiler) There’s so much disinformation from fossil fuel lobbyists on heat pumps - and anecdote based on bad installs or out of date tech - but we hear time and time again how much Octopus customer la love their heat pumps. Cosy heat pumps can run as hot as a boiler (70C+), can often be installed with no radiator changes and no new insulation, work with microbore piping, can often retain your old hot water tank if you have one. But so much more - comfort sensors in up to ten rooms, optional remote support and servicing, software updates to literally make your heating better without a visit. Effortlessly working with smart tariffs to save money. British designed, British manufactured and thousands of great British jobs. Helping insulate Brits from the last gas crisis, this gas crisis and more to come. See the data for yourself: octopus.energy/cosy-heat-pump…

@g__j @OctopusEnergy Yes Greg but they are only suitable for small well insulated homes. My home is super insulated you couldn’t offer me one big enough. How about showing actual energy graphs for customers with heat pumps.

@NeverRemem33961 @g__j @OctopusEnergy 4x cost is correct. It is also incorrect. Overnight rates are much cheaper closer to 1.6x. That’s 25% of your day. It’s also the best time to run the hot water (usually the least efficient part of heat pumps). Worth getting the quote and seeing their estimate, no?

@g__j @OctopusEnergy Electricity is 4x the cost of gas per kwh, so I can't see how this would work for a house with an efficient gas boiler. Certainly an old place like mine with solid brick walls. Might be OK for newer builds, but old stuff? Nah. Not practical.

@j_macca7 @g__j @AntiEVidiots @OctopusEnergy Sorry to break it to you. Your new build is not installed for efficiency then. The rads will have been undersized by the sounds of it. Even with gas boiler there are savings with low flow temperatures.

@g__j @AntiEVidiots @OctopusEnergy Priced one up for my new build. Octopus wanted to rip out a brand new water tank and brand new rads to make this work (and obviously a brand new boiler). Economically, it was not a smart thing to do sadly.

@Masboro666 @g__j @OctopusEnergy Yet the data shows 80% make savings. 6% are neutral. Only 14% are worse off compared to gas. So what you’re saying is 80% of the customers shouldn’t have move forward with this because some 14% are worse off?

@g__j @OctopusEnergy Disinformation? Everyone I know with a heat pump only finds it economical when they also have solar panels. That may work for some, but they are totally inappropriate for the majority of current homes in the U.K. without additional investment in the property.

@nick_advice @g__j @OctopusEnergy The average savings are shown on the dashboard. 80% are cheaper. Another 6% are at cost parity with a boiler. o 86 out of 100 people are even or money ahead vs. a gas boiler even before the recent gas price shock. 🙂

And for added context, 9 months (roughly July 2024 to March 2025), we spent roughly £620 for gas (Inc standing charges - about £72). What will dramatically change is when we get the 3x Tesla powerwall 3's, we'll soon be min maxing the off peak rates of Intelligent Go. The blended rate will be closer to 5p Vs 12.68p currently, and even more energy to export back on Agile export into the grid at peak times outside of winter

@eddify @g__j @OctopusEnergy From my understanding, tinkering with TRV’s is counter productive. Providing little savings (if any). Ideal world you have an open loop system with no tinkering. @plumbers_urban has a few videos on this.

@g__j @OctopusEnergy Cosy 6 customer here, and although the installation process was a rough experience (hope it's improved since then), I wish there could be more control of each radiator via remote controlled TRVs like the Tado's. Keep up the great work Greg, thank you

@g__j @OctopusEnergy So if I spend £10k after any grant taken off, I save £181 a year. 55 years time it will have paid for itself 🤦‍♂️

📽️ From Donald Trump to Britain's wind power trade body, there's a growing coalition calling for more drilling in the North Sea. Raising the question: if we DID encourage more exploration, how much oil & gas could we actually get? Our MEGA primer on the North Sea👇 Ps it's longer than usual, but it turns out this topic has SO MANY misconceptions. Time to put some of them right. Let me know what you think

Terrible news: a 43-year-old cyclist critically injured in collision with a 366 bus last week has died of his injuries. He is the fourth person known to have died cycling in London in 2026. His death was announced @TfL board meeting at the same time as two other bus fatalities.

@MCab78 @RossLydall @TfL Bus drivers kill 1/10 deaths on London roads. They make up only 1/100 miles driven on London roads. Let’s not victim blame, look at the root cause. x.com/_VN5/status/20…

@OpenChiswickW4 Anyone who’s interested in how bad the situation is with TfL buses should look at @comadad’s work. It is a wormhole which just gets worse as you read more into it. It truly is an avoidable dark side of TfL. 😔

@RossLydall @TfL RIP whoever it was but like to know where the blame lies With the Bi-Cyclist’s stupidity or the Bus Driver’s atrocious driving Seems details are never released with the common occurrence of bus fatalities but almost immediately when a Lorry or private car’s involved Y/N Ross?
