Ousmane Sonko is expected to assume the presidency of #Senegal’s National Assembly, where his PASTEF party commands a strong majority, in a direct challenge to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Deputies have been summoned to a full session of the assembly on Tuesday morning to reinstate Sonko as a member of parliament and vote for a new President of the Assembly. El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly and a close ally of Sonko resigned on Sunday. Now, this further complicates reform efforts by Faye, who sacked Sonko on Friday after months of tensions. Faye has to name another Prime Minister to replace Sonko, and that choice will have to be approved by the National Assembly within three months of the nomination. President Faye cannot dissolve parliament itself until November, two years after the last parliamentary election. Areas mapped for the expressway and associated interchanges must remain free from encroachment to facilitate project implementation. ▪️UPDATE: The Kampala–Jinja Expressway remains a priority project under @GovUganda transport infrastructure programme and is currently in ADVANCED procurement & contract processes.
