If that had been allowed to happen, either the Iranians would have been able to cause 100x the damage they are causing now, or, worse, nobody would have dared to stop them from getting nuclear weapons for fear of the cost of preventive action. America and its allies - in Israel, in the Gulf, and elsewhere - have the upper hand now, and all that remains is to keep the pressure on, in whatever form that will take.
