Who is least at fault?...Mendy, Stearns, or Cohen? If you really think about it it's probably Mendy, and im not even the biggest fan of his in game managing. Stearns picks the players and has full control. Scapegoated all the coaches and players from last year. If you're the owner and you continue to give him that power then you're at fault too.

Stearns is a stubborn baseball exec. He believes what he believes. It's clear that he values bullpen flexibility, he built the bullpen the same way last year. He wants to have a couple spots that he can usher new bullpen guys in and out when they are ineffective or when the bullpen is taxed and needs fresh arms. The problem with that is that the replacement arms are likely going to be as bad as the guys you are sending down or DFA'd unless you have a bunch of young relief arms in the minors knocking on the door. You've already spent more than 300 million to put together the team. How bout you spend more than 1.75 mill on some more talented relievers in the offseason that you can rely on for most of the season?? They've got at least 2 holes in their bullpen and need another late inning high leverage arm to support Weaver.

The Mets are designating reliever Luis Garcia for assignment, league sources tell The Athletic. They are calling up reliever Joey Gerber. In the offseason, the Mets had signed Garcia to a one-year guarantee.

@jhuzzfin @vzmercogliano No I don’t understand you that’s all. Mika would have been one of the best centers available on the market even to a few limited contenders. Combined with the rangers cap space and ability to eat money a return would be at its highest now on a bounce back year than later on.

@jhuzzfin @vzmercogliano Exactly..if you wanted him gone he would be moved. Of course he would likely only agree to select contenders/locations. Next time you do your research!! Learn how full moves and partial movements go. How’d that work out for Trouba and Kreider

Carlos Estévez recalls how a scout humiliated him and called him a “piece of shit” (Written and translated by Master Flip) “I went to this Pirates showcase. They told everyone you had to be there by 10 a.m. to sign in, and I was like, no problem, we’re out early. I rolled up way before that, ended up second on the list. Perfect spot, right? They put me in super late. I threw maybe six pitches total to two Cubans. Got a strikeout and a fly ball to left. Solid stuff. I felt good. I saw the big dawg, the legendary scout who’d signed tons of ballplayers, walking over, and I thought, here it comes. Some real feedback. He’s gonna see what I got. Instead, in front of everybody, “Who brought this piece of shit here?” In front of everybody! My heart dropped. Then he kept going: “Get this piece of shit out of here.” This was a major league scout with a long track record, though he’s out of baseball now after some ugly situation. I was expecting pointers like “Close out your delivery more, kid, let’s see what happens”something to build on. Not that! I’d been there since 7 a.m. on a Sunday. I’d been grinding all week throwing sessions, I come here and throw 6 or 7 pitches and this guy comes here and tells me that? I walked off the mound, sat down to switch into my running shoes, and the tears just came. Big ones rolling down. I felt crushed. Then Josue Herrera, a Pirates scout, came over, tapped me on the shoulder, and said, “Big dawg, get up from there and go run. You’re gonna be a big leaguer one day.” Man, I still get goosebumps thinking about it. He said it straight up like that. I laced up, hit the field, and ran my foul pole to foul pole routine and did it 10 times straight. Only this time, I was angry!” 🎥 @AbriendoSports

If an extension gets done with Peralta then it’s a fair deal. If not then it’s too much. All of these players signed or traded for since last years trade deadline were effectively rentals or are now on 1 year deals. Not the best way to manage assets/prospects/draft capital @EvanRobertsWFAN Peralta Helsley Soto Rogers Mullins Robert Jr. Bichette (draft picks surrendered)

100%. Stearns tore apart the team and then expects free agents to want to sign there? Tucker isn't even close to worth what the #Mets offered, but he wouldn't pay Diaz an extra 6M? There was no way Tucker was signing with the Mets, he can't handle the pressure
Steve@_blackout06

@JimDuquetteGM What would make them think that after completely dismantling their roster they would win a bidding war against the Dodgers and Blue Jays when both of those teams have significantly better rosters than the Mets? It’s not about how much Cohen offered. It’s a flawed strategy

Per @ByRobertMurray, Kyle Tucker's contract with the Dodgers is for four years and $240 million. The Mets reportedly offered Tucker a short-term deal of $50 million AAV.

It’s time focus on how poorly Stearns has managed the Mets roster. Free agency and 2025 Trade deadline strategy were flawed. Imagine dismantling the entire team and deciding to throw over 50 million at an overrated OF. If you had been more aggressive from the start you could have brought back Pete and Diaz for essentially the same 50 million combined

You can create an argument whether moving on from Díaz, Nimmo, and Alonso was the right move by Stearns but it’s the roster malpractice which is inexcusable to me. All the players he acquired at the trade deadline made little to no impact. He gave up several assets for guys who were soon to be free agents with no control. That’s a losing formula

It was always known that Stearns believes in big contracts when there is an “outlier” player available. But, at this point I think Met fans deserve know if Steve Cohen has been directing Stearns to be more budget conscious until they are under the penalty threshold. Can’t imagine Stearns is doing this without oversight

David Stearns was asked if he plans to meet with Pete Alonso in-person at the Winter Meetings: "I did see Pete was coming. I think Pete knows us really well. I think we know Pete really well. I think he'll take the time here to perhaps meet with organizations he doesn't know quite as well and I'm sure we'll be in touch."
