I finally discovered why they are doing this! The new Kindle devices have ads in them, which you have to pay extra to remove them. I’m assuming they couldn’t put ads on the old Kindles. Sooner or later the ads will play every other page! We live in corporate hell now!

A Kindle is probably one of the most low-tech devices ever made, so why is @AmazonUK discontinuing support for Kindle 1st and 2nd Generation? Why are they forcing new stuff without reason? A KINDLE IS A TEXT DEVICE! There is no need for updates. Text is text! #amazon #kindle

Either we accept this as a society, and set a precedent for allowing virtually all jobs to be replaced with almost no compensation. Or we speak up now. For artists. For writers. For musicians. For everybody.

🚨 BREAKING: OpenAI and Google are about to have a massive legal problem. OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic have repeatedly sworn to courts that their models do not store exact copies of copyrighted books. They claim their "safety training" prevents regurgitation. Researchers just dropped a paper called "Alignment Whack-a-Mole" that proves otherwise. They didn't use complex jailbreaks or malicious prompts. They just took GPT-4o, Gemini, and DeepSeek, and fine-tuned them on a normal, benign task: expanding plot summaries into full text. The safety guardrails instantly collapsed. Without ever seeing the actual book text in the prompt, the models started spitting out exact, verbatim copies of copyrighted books. Up to 90% of entire novels, word-for-word. Continuous passages exceeding 460 words at a time. But here is the part that changes everything. They fine-tuned a model exclusively on Haruki Murakami novels. It didn't just learn Murakami. It unlocked the verbatim text of over 30 completely unrelated authors across different genres. The AI wasn't learning the text during fine-tuning. The text was already permanently trapped inside its weights from pre-training. The fine-tuning just turned off the filter. It gets worse. They tested models from three completely different tech giants. All three had memorized the exact same books, in the exact same spots. A 90% overlap. It's a fundamental, industry-wide vulnerability. For years, AI companies have argued in court that their models are just "learning patterns," not storing raw data. This paper provides the smoking gun.

35 million UK iPhone users now have to provide a credit card or ID just to use their phone normally. The recent update mentioned new emojis & updates to Apple Music, only for users to be confronted with an Age Verification screen. Apple said UK law requires this. It doesn't.

There's a toxic culture coming out of the AI industry that keeps trying to get us not to think. The message is everywhere. Don’t read the code, just vibe-code. Don’t try to understand all the text, just let AI summarize it. Don’t bother educating yourself, it’s too late. Don’t worry about the errors. Trust that everything will be fixed in the next version. The theme is the same. Don’t think too hard. Just keep swallowing the slop.

What is good: ✅ Encryption will not be broken What is bad: ❌ Commission & Council want #IDchecks Lots of journalists, whistleblowers, activists and dissidents choose Tuta to protect their identity. We hope the European Parliament will stick to their decision to oppose mass #surveillance and #censorship. 👉 Read more on Chat Control: tuta.com/blog/chat-cont…

🦔 Meta contractors in Kenya told Swedish newspapers they're being asked to review intimate footage from Ray-Ban AI glasses, including people undressing, using the bathroom, watching porn, and filming sex. One contractor said users often don't realize they're still recording when they set the glasses down. Meta sold 7 million pairs in 2025, up from 2 million in 2023-2024 combined. Users can't use the AI features without agreeing to share data with Meta's servers, and the terms of service bury the fact that humans may manually review your footage. One annotator said "if they knew about the extent of the data collection, no one would dare to use the glasses." My Take This is the Google Home story again but worse. At least with cameras in your house, you know where they are. These are glasses you wear on your face that keep recording when you take them off and set them on your nightstand. And the footage goes to contractors overseas who are paid to watch and label it for AI training. One worker described seeing a man leave the room, then his wife come in and change clothes. People forget the camera is still on. Meta buries all of this in terms of service nobody reads. The product is marketed as a cool way to capture your life and interact with AI. The reality is strangers in Kenya watching you undress so they can annotate the footage to make Zuckerberg's AI better. Seven million people bought these last year. I'd bet almost none of them understood what they were actually agreeing to. Hedgie🤗

The UK government is hugely overstating how many people their new ‘AI Growth Zone’ will employ. They announced that it will create 800 full-time jobs. I submitted an FOI request for their calculations, and the real number is probably below 300. Their headline figure was even bigger - 3,400 jobs. Most of these, though, are temporary construction jobs while the data centres get built. Spinning <300 permanent jobs as “3,400 jobs” is wild. It seems like yet another attempt by the government to paint AI as a jobs creator, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Full post below.
