African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA)
This week at #WHA79 , we joined @WHO, @_AfricanUnion & partners for a high-level meeting moderated by @ALMA_2030's @JoyPhumaphi_ , reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening cross-border collaboration and accelerating the elimination of #malaria & #NTDs. Some takeaways: ✅ Integrated, resilient health services are essential for sustaining impact ✅Cross-border collaboration is critical as mobility & climate change reshape disease transmission ✅Declining external funding underscores the need for stronger national ownership and increased domestic financing for health

Zero Malaria Starts With All of Us ...
African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA)@ALMA_2030

Africa’s fight against #malaria is at a critical turning point. At the 79th World Health Assembly, African leaders and global health partners came together to champion sustainable financing, country-led action, innovation, and stronger partnerships to drive the Big Push against Malaria. With Africa accounting for 96% of global malaria cases and 97% of deaths, leaders called for urgent action to protect progress and accelerate toward elimination. From increased domestic financing to local manufacturing and multisectoral action, the message was clear, ending #malaria requires all of us working together. "And this is where the leadership of His Excellency President @JDMahama has been so decisive, in launching the Accra Reset last year. In the past year, many countries have experienced severe disruptions due to sudden and steep cuts in development assistance. Those disruptions, and the damage they caused to the health of individuals, families and communities, were regrettable and avoidable. But they had an unintended benefit: they prompted many leaders to say now is the moment to leave behind the era of donor dependency, and open a new era of health sovereignty. That is the message of the Accra Reset, and the echoes of Accra are now resounding in Geneva, and around the world"-@DrTedros #WHA79

Former First Lady of Namibia, Monica Geingos, is the incoming Board Chair of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), the world's largest alliance for women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health. Geingos will succeed New Zealand politician Helen Clark, who completes her tenure in November 2026. Announcing the appointment of Geingos, Clark said, “Monica is exceptionally well placed to lead the partnership at this moment, bringing together principled leadership with practical experience and a clear understanding that progress for women, children and adolescents depends on political courage, inclusive partnerships and sustained investment.” According to PMNCH, Geingos’ appointment reinforces its commitment to ensuring that women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health, including full access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, remains central to global health and development efforts. Accepting her appointment, Geingos shared that she was “deeply honoured to take on this role and particularly to build on the exceptional leadership of Helen Clark, whose commitment has helped shape PMNCH into a powerful global platform for advocacy and accountability". South Africa's Minister of Health, Pakishe Motsoaledi, highlighted the importance of Geingos’ appointment for the African continent, saying, “Africa needs strong and credible voices to champion investment in health, dignity and human potential.” Motsoaledi added, “Ms. Geingos has demonstrated precisely that kind of leadership throughout her public life.” Report: Mallex Shipanga #NBCNews #nbcdigitalnews #nbcDSTV282 #nbcGOtv20 #nbcplusapp
