Day 5 of pad irritation awareness series, In 2025, a study tested 65 sanitary pads sold in Nigeria. It found 20 different VOCs in all of them, including known carcinogens. That should have been a wakeup call for every woman who uses these products but the researchers did not name a single brand or product. Instead, they labeled the pads only as with VOC “Brand 1,” “Brand 2,” and so on. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are a large group of carbon-based chemicals that easily evaporate at room temperature, releasing gases or vapors that can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin in sanitary pads, they are used as softening agents and absorbency aids By hiding the actual names, the study protects the manufacturers instead of protecting women. A woman cannot avoid a dangerous product if she doesn’t know which one it is. Without brand transparency, the research is incomplete and women remain guinea pigs. Science that hides the truth from consumers is not safety. It is a failure of duty. @NafdacAgency Nigerian women are using pads that may have VOC and exposes them to many health risks like cancer and do not know what products are those
