GPT has a new phenomenon that's driving me nuts and I don't quite know how to describe it. - Ask it if I can do something - It says "no you can't [incredibly twisted restatement of what I asked but also not at all what I asked]" - It then tells me how to do the thing wonderfully - And finishes with an insulting "But you can't just [stupid thing I never actually said]" It goes something like this: "Can I form and coach a youth soccer team for my kid and play in P/D level leagues? Or do I have to be part of a full club?" Then it says: "For official competitive teams in Utah, you cannot just form a random team and enter a league. "There is a lesser-known option: UYSA allows independent teams to enter leagues if they meet requirements. [...lists some simple requirements...] "But it’s not “show up with a group of kids on game day”—it’s more like running a small club team administratively. I never said just "show up with a group of kids on game day"! It does this to me with code too. It's so weird.

@daniel_mac8 doubt this was about money - many top ai researchers already have life changing money. I think the spirit of the question was “what could be more exciting than building agi and why?”

karpathy prob banked a ton of $$$ from his previous roles now he has the freedom to live his entire life as a frontier AI lab that benefits all, without any business concerns living the dream tbh

@catehall how do you figure? i interpret sam's tweets in 2 possible ways: 1. OAI terms are similar to what Ant was offered (and rejected) 2. OAI terms are sufficiently different from what Ant rejected sam's says he thinks OAI deal should be available to all AI co's; seems fine?

apologies for the QT but: would you agree that if the terms OpenAI agreed to are different from the ones Anthropic rejected, then this is manipulative on Sam's part?

icymi - the @Wealthsimple cash card is pretty great (no fx fees, 1% cash back). I don't use debit much but it's fast become my default for int'l travel, online USD purchases, and coffee

@shreyas this reads as either/or, and I don't think it necessarily is. There's a world where you don't blame others/bad luck, but can also accept that it wasn't "on you" and move on. Easier said than done obviously, but I think this is the goal I try to aim for these days

One downside of being a very high agency person is that you are wired to never blame other people or bad luck, which then leads you to internalize failures & nasty jolts as being on you even though you may have tried your very best. Longterm, this is extremely emotionally taxing.

a few days into trialling @lunchmoney_app and while I am super excited by its intuitiveness, my transactions haven't refreshed after my first day, despite multiple forced attempts :/
