This is the world we're living in: 'Trump’s executive order sanctioning Albanese prohibited any American person or entity from providing her with “funds, goods or services” – a description so broad it has been compared to a “civil death”. Her apartment in Washington, bought when she and her family were living in the US capital, has been seized. She can no longer use a credit card anywhere in the world, as almost all such transactions are processed by US-based services. “I go around with cash or I have to borrow from friends or from family members,” she says. 'She accuses pro-Israel activists based in Geneva of hounding her husband, Massimiliano Calì, a senior economist at the World Bank, in a campaign that led to him being removed from his lead position running its Syria file. “The World Bank was completely craven,” Albanese says. “He has stellar records of performance in all his positions.”' theguardian.com/law/2026/apr/1…

@IanBatchelor11 @MisirStan @DavidShoebridge Yes it does. Investments have risks. But where is it being redistributed to? Why is a big piece of the pie being served to a smaller group of the people while everyone else gets less? Is that the system we want?

@_jazzparty @MisirStan @DavidShoebridge Wealth actually gets redistributed quite frequently. Not all projects end up being successful, money is lost, employees lose jobs, offices and workplaces go empty. Many go broke paying bills. More risk requires more reward.

@IanBatchelor11 @DavidShoebridge We’re not talking about the end of business here. We’re talking about sustainable business growth. Things are out of control. Mega salaries for ceos and mega profits for businesses while working conditions deteriorate. It’s gone too far and needs to be reined in

@_jazzparty @DavidShoebridge We give payrises and bonuses to good workers now. But to create a factory, or build a cruise ship, then quite a lot of money is needed. That has to be accumulated somewhere. How do you propose large projects?

@IanBatchelor11 @DavidShoebridge We can also still reward great ideas and innovation financially. The people who do the most demanding and high skilled work can still earn more. It’s just about making it more proportionate. It’s about making sure they don’t buy up all the assets to exploit the poor.

@IanBatchelor11 @DavidShoebridge I agree with you and in part but why does status have to relate to wealth? What about the status and prestige that comes from great achievement or being the best at your craft? There’s a lot of ways to motivate people that are not “this or starve”.

@Bellorris It is called “klassejustitie” in Dutch. Literally “class justice” meaning there is one rule for me and another for thee. Or in other words lower class people and minorities tend to get screwed over by the system. In the US the different sentences when it comes to crack v.

idk, i just find it a bit absurd that the man who set fire to a warehouse full of toilet paper is facing more immediate consequences than literally any of the men in the epstein files.

So, if I am cash poor yet asset rich, such as an owner of several inner city office blocks, I have to sell my assets in order to pay taxes? Who will have the cash to buy those assets if they too are being taxed into oblivion? Perhaps us peasants will see an opportunity and collectivise into a corporation to buy those properties??? Marxist wealth redistribution has never worked and can't possibly work.

@ZjcvKk @sistertonin Yeah like it not all that long ago. One wage to feed a household, everyone contributed to care work, maintenance, home duties. Now it’s two wages and we’re too tired to do any of the other work and too poor to pay someone else to do it

i don't care if you work a "minimum wage" job or have no job at all. you should 100% have access to food, water, shelter, and medical care. period.

@AELeighton2 @sistertonin Not the same necessarily, there should be reward for labour. But there should also be a baseline where people’s basic needs are met. Most of us are just six months of illness or a job loss away from being in that situation. Poverty is complex and damages the whole society.

@potcalling @SistaRuthDOPD @SpudBenBean @AlboMP We don’t even have a standard measure to determine where the poverty line is. What isn’t measured can be ignored - the MO of politicians everywhere, all the time.
