As a developer, have you ever wondered: You type a 16‑digit card number and the form instantly says “Invalid card number”. There are billions of possible numbers. How the hell is that check that fast?

The King’s Road
The King’s Road@DavidWall139368·
This is a textbook collision between the Justice Ethic (objective facts, like boiling points) and the Care Ethic (her emotional reaction to feeling corrected).  She is throwing out a chaotic, sweeping statement to pressure-test your Frame. If you get frustrated or try to logically argue the physics of cooking pasta, you fail the test by treating emotional chaos as a rational dialogue.  Instead, a King holds a Benevolent Frame and deploys the 'Agree & Amplify' tactic from his arsenal to easily deflect the storm. The perfect response here is to playfully lean into the absurdity: 'You caught us, the patriarchy's top secret agenda is actually just gatekeeping cold water.'  Never argue the logic of an emotional test; just hold your structure.

@RossHunneds @fireshoes @SaffronOlive Why I made it like this? I don't like excluding draws from winrate calculations because some matchups are more prone to draw than others and unintentionally drawing is a valid result anyway. Its useful information that should be preserved.

@cross__entropy @fireshoes In this matrix, there are a few cells where the matrix isn't symmetric the way I'd expect. Like prowess vs. momo white the win rate reported from both sides doesn't add up. Is that because draws are considered a loss for both players?

@whoismrzero This is very interesting. I remember being interested in one boy in first grade, and then another few in middle school, before an avalanche of them in high school, but I told myself it was never sexual. Out of curiosity, how common is it to start even earlier than that?

I am convinced people do not remember what childhood was like. Children learn what “gay” is in first grade from other kids. That was the first time I heard the word in 1990. And we start figuring out we are gay at the same time you all start figuring out you like the opposite sex, so childhood. We don’t suddenly develop gayness in adulthood. The same time you were developing crushes on boys, we were also developing crushes on boys. When you were wishing to kiss a boy, we were wishing the same. When you were dreaming of your first boyfriend and to walk through the halls holding his hand…guess what? All of us gay boys were having the same dreams. The difference has always been that you are free to live your dreams and we have to hide ourselves.

@iivyphoenix2426 @smalltown_wife @TheMarieOakes Like people have to understand, if I didn't consent to something, then I expect not to have to live with the consequences of your choices. You didn't consult me when you got a dog, so I should rightfully have no part of it. Children same thing. The end.

@iivyphoenix2426 @smalltown_wife @TheMarieOakes I. Don't. Care. It could be anything at all, and the dog owner should replace it and apologize. Also, imagine if there weren't leggings, then it would be her leg - which is not replaceable. Then what would the dog owner owe? Train your dogs or keep them away from other people

I am literally so sick of everyone bringing their dogs EVERYWHERE. some lady’s dog just jumped on me in a store and RIPPED MY PANTS. very glad it was me and not my kid walking beside me. I really let her have it but realistically it’s not like she’s going to learn anything 🫩 STOP LETTING YOUR DOGS GET THIS CLOSE TO PEOPLE. K THANKS BYE

@JamieCharlesEl1 I addressed both points... I talked about your weird ad hominem about skill, and then I returned to the topic of this subthread: comparing to getting your hair messed up. Even in the OP there's nothing about an emotional outburst so Idk what you're on about.

@_jtl005_ Cool, just completely ignore the main point about not being able to handle a loss in a social setting like an adult who can regulate their emotions, just to plug your play record LMAO

@lexanilex @JamieCharlesEl1 @CadenChampion Honestly, I invited this comment by using the C word, so fair. So if the tournament OP was talking about was literally one where the results don't matter, then valid. But in some tournaments, you 'd be walking away from a lot to just drop every time your opponent asks a dumb Q

@JustDeficient @JamieCharlesEl1 @CadenChampion I would think if anything, getting hair in your face would be the funny thing. You'd look an absolute mess, comically, even moreso than most magic players already do. (Which is why I refuse to believe anyone is being honest if they say they'd rather 0-3 than get messy hair)

@JamieCharlesEl1 I mean my pro magic resume is literally on the internet mtggoldfish.com/player/Jeff+Lin, but I don't even agree with your premise that it's about skill. Cause even at low skill, if you ask an FNM player would they rather go 0-3, or would they rather get wind in their hair on the way

@_jtl005_ You WILL lose, you WILL go 0-3 at some point. If you can't handle that, don't play. If going 0-3 is something that makes you genuinely unsociable to your fellow players, stop going to irl events because your skill level does not match the size of that ego.

@GALVANLazarus @dustoxgDP63 I see, maybe there is something to hope for if they want to talk strats. But I would expect that 99% of magic players would either have an actually poor response (unsportsmanlike) or prefer not to talk about it at best, making the given reaction actually on the classier side.

@_jtl005_ @dustoxgDP63 I mainly didnt like the "what were u hoping for" because I get excited to talk about matches. Even at a major where money is on the line I still see myself as a student, and if I've learned from my loss, I get excited to tell others

@GALVANLazarus @dustoxgDP63 Yes, I've always preferred neither tending towards negativity nor positivity, and just reporting things as they are. I do save stories of my losses sometimes, but the magnitude of the story seems small to me compared to what's at stake at an event like a PT.

@_jtl005_ @dustoxgDP63 I dont think it depends on the stakes too much. The games I've talked about the most are the games I've played at majors. Win/loss. 0-2 or 0-3. I still have stories, but thats me cuz I see most things positive. Ofc if its a scoop theres no story, but u said "good" losses too.

@JamieCharlesEl1 @CadenChampion If you're going to nitpick the magnitude (not directionality) of someone else's comparison, at least don't miss on the magnitude yourself. Getting wind in your hair is not even close to going 0-3, even in the most casual of tournaments, let alone anything actually serious.

@CadenChampion Brother that's not even remotely on the same level. Asking how their games went when you're both 0-3 is like asking "Windy Outside?" when someone walks in with their hair all messy.

@dawn__oh @CadenChampion @dustoxgDP63 so that proves it's not malicious or condescending, but it still doesn't change that it's not something the average player is excited to talk about.

@GALVANLazarus @dustoxgDP63 It depends on the stakes. At MTGO challenge level and below, yeah I'd rather actually play good games that teach me or excite me than win. But when playing for thousands of dollars per match on average, having a game be a "good" loss instead of a mull to 4 mana screw is meh.

@_jtl005_ @dustoxgDP63 What if all the losses were really really close and awesome and intense and worth the story telling for the unique interactions and gamesense that went into them. You'll never find out without asking and being friendly. 🤷‍♂️

@ItIsKaroshi @dustoxgDP63 which is why I actually consider "Just play" to be fairly classy. Opponent kind of pokes a sore spot, maybe not intentionally. And you keep it level, terse, and objective. That's sportsmanship.

@TheBoundBunny @ItIsKaroshi @dustoxgDP63 Granting it's a joke, but just want to point out a polar opposite difference is, when receiving a service or good you should be happy. When receiving 3 losses, you are expected to be sad/mad/etc.

@TheBoundBunny @ItIsKaroshi @dustoxgDP63 Going to interject here because I actually don't think that's feasible. Often times when I discuss plays with my teammates, the setup takes either a picture or a long description. It's not really suited for a quick conversation.

@artutono15 @dustoxgDP63 And that would be valid. I've just had too many people bitch at me about my not wanting to be in a conversation, while at the same time bitching that if I do join the conversation, I add negativity. Pick one. As long as they know what they're asking, they're good.
