A Netflix Garfield assassination docudrama is cool, but why don’t we have an epic Netflix drama about Lincoln’s assassination?
Instead I’m sure we have like different six History Channel miniseries on it that range from boring to awful and don’t really dramatize it the way Death By Lightning does Garfield’s, don’t have major movie stars, directors and, crucially, writers.
Why do we do this? Why do not we not tell our own REAL stories with our whole chests, our whole informational-artistic apparatus?
It’s like our “best” talent is afraid to tackle our biggest stories, instead always trying to find the slightly off-center ones that they can cover from an angle where they can avoid having to be authoritative.
