I am disgusted that my son Doug Coltart was assaulted by thugs at the Constitutional hearing in Harare this afternoon. His glasses were broken and his cell phone was stolen. Doug is one of the most peaceful people one could ever hope to meet. Whilst I am of course biased as his father this fact can be confirmed by all who know him. He is a committed believer in Jesus and the non violent principles that Jesus taught. I have just spoken to him - aside from bruises he is fine thank the good Lord. This assault has happened simply because he has become such a strong advocate against the illegal Constitutional amendment being pushed by a highly corrupt faction of Zanu PF. Our Nation can do better than this. @Sophie_Mokoena @christinalamb

But why is Jonathan Moyo, the man who is writing the amendment still living in exile in a foreign country, and not coming back home to live in the country he believes he is saving through the amendment without referendum? Why has he not taken up Wiknells offer to come back home?

Amendment Bill No. 3 cannot be reduced to an individual, that’s a flawed approach. The only important question is: Is it good for ZANU PF & Zimbabwe?? That’s all. @ProfJNMoyo’s input or views are just that: Personal Input & Views. We can’t throw away a good idea or a good amendment based on persons & personalities, that’s a bad approach. The Amendment Bill has SEVERAL changes to the constitution, it can’t be reduced to ONE. Many people have focused the possibility that President @edmnangagwa may stay until 2030 as if that’s the only thing in the Bill. ED may choose not to do that, it’s a decision he can make ANYTIME & has no effect on the Amendment itself because it is CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT, not an ED Amendment. The removal of the Direct Election of a President is good for Zimbabwe & it is also AWESOMELY GOOD for ZANU PF. No sane ZANU PF person would oppose that, it would stupidity of the highest order considering how the opposition has been weaponising presidential elections to delegitimise ZANU PF electoral victory. ZANU PF has a SOLID hold on Constituencies, that’s why only a DUMB ZANU PF person would oppose that Amendment. A very dumb one. If anything, I wouldn’t mind compromising on the 7 year term, it’s something that we can compromise on but it remains a GOOD APPROACH because it reduces the frequency of elections thus giving incumbents enough time to focus on development. We are a developing country, we don’t have the luxury of wasting time & money on elections. Transferring voter registration to the Civil Registry department is a COMMON SENSE Amendment. This means there can be a system which automatically updates the voter’s roll when someone dies. And people can register to vote the moment they get their national ID. We can even consider automatic voter registration in future. Don’t reduce this Amendment to ED to Jonathan Moyo, these are individuals who come & go, the Constitution can outlive them…. The ZANU PF folks & opposition folks who have reduced this Amendment to individuals are mistaken & myopic. Some of them are showing us how insecure they are …. Anyone who is confident of becoming a President in future wouldn’t mind the convenience of being voted into power by MPs… or the advantage of a 7 year term…. At worst, ED will just have an additional 2 years in office, that can’t stop anyone’s Presidential ambition.

Sekuru Geza was a man who stood for what he believed in. For that he earned respect. While there may be differences over approach and tactics, the underlying cause remained his love for the country. For that and also his liberation credentials, he deserves to be a National Hero.

Meet President Father, Mafidhi Mnangagwa. Mafidhi Mnangagwa, the father of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, hailed from a proud lineage of the Karanga people. He was the son of a renowned Karanga warrior, Mubango Kushanduka, whose legacy of courage, discipline and leadership was deeply rooted in the community. Sekuru Mafidhi himself went on to serve as the leader of his village, a position of authority and respect. During the colonial era, white settlers referred to this traditional role as “Sub-Book” or Village Head, yet within the community he was recognised as a custodian of culture, order and unity. He was married to Mhurai Mnangagwa, and together they raised a family of ten children. Through strong values of hard work, resilience, respect and patriotism, Sekuru Mafidhi instilled principles that would later shape one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent leaders. The life and legacy of Mafidhi Mnangagwa reflect the enduring spirit of Zimbabwe’s traditional leadership—grounded in service, sacrifice and commitment to community, values that continue to echo in the leadership of President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa today. @edmnangagwa @enkudheni @GrainfulTrust
