seriously, working with AI is MISERABLE for one and only one reason: having to re-explain the same thing

AGENTS.md doesn't solve this because it is impossible to fit the entire domain knowledge without nuking the context - it would be 1m+ tokens worth
RAGs don't solve this, the agent won't search unknown unknowns
SKILLs don't solve this unless I keep like a collection of 1750 skills with specific cuts of domain knowledge for each possible subset of my domain that I might need in a given chat, but that's a lot of manual work
recursive LLMs or whatever don't solve this for the same reason, you can't dump a domain book and expect the AGENT will magically guess that it is supposed to search for a specific bit knowledge. unknown unknowns
fine tuning doesn't solve this (OSS models suck and OpenAI / Anthropic gave up on user fine tuning)
I honestly think a good product around fine tuning on your domain would be a major hit and an underdog lab should take this opportunity

i completely agree but sometimes 'benchmarks' are hard to quantify. while we still have lots of our own internal benchmarks and evals, what i've moved towards are a specific set of representative tasks and problems that are either currently problematic for the sota models and / or things we do all the time that are core to our version of success. while the distinction might not be particularly interesting at first glance, to me the difference is 'how we do you do on a synthetic approximation of what we value" vs "how well do you actually work in our system with our exact problem compared to the best way(s) we know how to do things today"

re: funding, i think the angel investing scene is heating up, many people made bank off working in AI the last 4 years and are willing to make bets on people who can find them and sit them down for 15 minutes
re: cohorts
there are more hacker houses/coworking spaces/technical meetup groups that engineers who have bounced and are taking a break from the companies are maintain. e.g. nycsystems.xyz and notes.ekzhang.com/events/nysrg and i'm sure you can find many similar groups in sf
think you can find ones with a founder/builder slant vs just engineering as well, but these are a little more gated so gotta hustle your way in

A Tsinghua professor sent his three kids to America to study.
Not because he thinks American education is better, but because his three children weren't as smart as him, and not able to get into Tsinghua (regression to the mean nerfing IQ of his kids)
Of course, if rich Chinese people's kids could get into Tsinghua or Peking, all parents would prefer that over any Western school.
Chinese top unis are the ultimate big brain street-cred.
However, the reality is that you can't buy your way into these schools, you can't grind your way in- you have to be born with a 140+ IQ and still work your ass off.
So most rich parents have no choice but to send their kids to a top 20 US school.
