Lebanese artist Ahmad Kaabour was laid to rest on Friday at the Shuhada Cemetery in Beirut, in a widely attended funeral. Kaabour passed away on Thursday at the age of 71 after a battle with cancer. Kaabour was a pioneer of politically committed music in Lebanon, and leaves behind a significant artistic legacy, most notably his song “Unadikum,” which is still widely sung today. He also created children’s theater and musical works that have endured across generations. Kaabour also composed the musical identity of Future TV in the 1990s and wrote the anthems of Nejmeh and Ansar football clubs.

Kaabour is one of the pioneers of committed musical art in Lebanon, best known for his iconic “Unadikum.” He was also among the few who worked in children’s theater and song. In all of his work, he was driven by love and a belief in justice. Kaabour departs today as South Lebanon bleeds once more, as if his death were a final gesture to fulfill the prophecy of his song, one last greeting over the Litani, reaching the people of Nabatieh and looking over Khiam.
