Bleszinski pushed for dangerous human antagonists (inspired by Pendulum Wars lore), despite some team resistance over moral concerns for protagonists like JD Fenix. Proposed Human Threats: Savage cannibal groups, drawing from Mad Max and Firefly’s Reavers. A highly addictive and deadly narcotic made from Lambent dust (described as a mix of cocaine, fentanyl, and krokodil). Users became extremely powerful but suffered catastrophic physical collapse afterward. Character Arc: JD Fenix secretly battling addiction while trying to live up to Marcus Fenix’s legacy — a metaphorical fight against inner demons. Locust Return Twist: The Locust eventually awaken from hibernation in a transformed “final form” — more monstrous and with wings. Marketing slogan idea: “Before, they came from below.
