@TfL morning, any word on when your payment systems will be back up please? I’ve been unable to add a new contactless to my oyster account for four days, due to “maintenance”

Chemistry is one of the scientific fields most 'AI-ready'. Compared to, for e.g., physics, chemistry has better standardisation of software+data New tools, such as Coscientist, are using web search+chemistry tools to do both experimental design+execution nature.com/articles/s4158…

@thomasforth Your kidneys are going to struggle to process more than about 3-4 cans of water an hour (alcohol aside), so I think you’re in trouble from about 2am onwards

Does every constituency have a brewery? If you drank the smallest and weakest canned or bottled beer possible from the brewery in each constituency as its results were announced at what time would you die?

Excellent thread (above and below this tweet). I’m going to write “One bit of genetics doesn’t predict well for another” on my hand the next time I have a meeting about genomics
Ewan Birney@ewanbirney

It is not that humans are perfectly mixed with genetics - we keep swirling around with different movements in different places, and the frequency of different genetic components goes up and down. It is just that one bit of genetics doesn't predict well another.

Interesting Biden line from today: "There comes a time maybe every 6, 8 generations where the world changes in a very short time. We are at that time now, and I think what happens in the next 2-3 years is going to determine what the world looks like for the next 5 or 6 decades."

On one hand, increasing data showing that AI really does improve task performance on many high-value work tasks by 20-60%. On the other hand, most CEOs are discouraging AI use as "they don't fully understand it." Understanding comes from experimentation. These firms won't learn.

The problem is not how do we make people trust AI, the problem is how do we make AI trustworthy. The first ever global AI Safety Summit in Bletchley will bring together leaders from across the world to create safer AI that will bolster public confidence in this technology.
Department for Science, Innovation and Technology@SciTechgovuk

On 1-2 November 2023, governments, AI companies and experts from around the work will meet at @BletchleyPark for crucial talks on the safe and responsible development of AI. AI has the potential to revolutionise the way we live, but we must also minimise its risks.
