Kristof deserves no credit for this; this is how he and the NYT continue their clean up job of manufacturing the case for genocide. Not only did he spend much of the past two years spreading pro-genocide propaganda - even urging us to consider why the Israelis would want to kill everyone - but he even slips in here the still unproven Israeli claim that women were raped on Oct 7.
Imagine sharing a piece in which you share actual testimonies from Palestinians about the sexual violence they’ve experienced at the hands of their occupiers, their genocidaires, and you still propagate a pro-genocide claim without any evidence.

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. The answer is quite simple: Palestinians, like Zionists, are both claiming the land that is actually contested and at the center of the conflict.
Zionists don’t claim parts of Jordan today, despite the historical Jewish connection there. Similarly, Palestinians don’t claim Jordan today, even though areas east of the Jordan were historically considered part of Palestine.
What you think is a gotcha is really just a striking similarity between both movements.

Asia belongs to Asians.
Israel belongs to Israelis.
America belongs to Americans.
And Europe belongs to Europeans.
Without proper borders - we are all doomed.

Other than Zionists, nobody frames the conflict this way. There are many layers of issues with this post but at a *very* high level he:
1) Reduces the issue to Jew vs Muslim - conveniently erasing Palestinian Christians altogether
2) Ignores and trivializes the official discriminatory laws, policies, and practices against Palestinians with Israeli citizenship or Israeli residency IDs

There are more Muslims living in Israel as full-citizens than there are Jews living (as citizens or not) in the 49 Muslim majority countries put together. This should be the only argument you need to debunk the false claim that Israel is an ethnostate.

Countries around Israel should establish diplomatic relations with Israel and use this diplomatic power to achieve peace. The threat of cancelling peace agreements is a much more serious problem to Israel than the hypothetical threat of not establishing relations.
