@benryanwriter Many parents don’t want to have to go through a school to get a hold of their child. They want direct access to their child whether that’s for concerns of medical, bullying or shooting. People can say it wasn’t like that in the 80s/90s. Yeah i didn’t worry about getting shot at

There are a lot of people arguing that the evidence is too weak to go along with Jon Haidt in the movement to get smartphones away from kids. But what are the arguments that kids should have smartphones? Do they help them pay attention in school? What benefits do they bring over an analogue life? There's the argument that kids can't socialize without them these days. But if there's community buy-in, and all kids in one school can't use them during school, for example, how is that still a factor?

@SusanDReynolds @cheesemonkeysf In OUSD, we make our advance students take a 5 week compression Algebra course during summer(5 hours a day) if they want to be in Geometry in grade 9. When their entire math 8 time should have been spent in Algebra🤦‍♀️

@aretae @tetheredtoed1 @garrytan Seeing a pattern in a ratio table and understanding the constant of proportionality relies on students knowing their multiplication facts.

@garrytan 10k hours tutoring + teaching math. ~All failure is not having 2 steps before automatic. Near 100% of fraction failure is because multiplication is too slow. MOST algebra failure is fraction failure. Most of math comprehension sits on multiplication tables.

As of Feb 1, 2026, adults 18–64 must work or volunteer 80 hours/month to qualify for SNAP. Parents lose exemptions when their youngest turns 14. Miss the hours for 3 months? You’re out. Nationwide rule.

I’ve seen posts saying the whole country is cheering for Indiana but I find that hard to believe. Tell me what state you are from and if you’re cheering for Miami or Indiana to win the championship

@Brian_Sauve I have not had any children by choice. This has allowed me to spend a lot of time with my niece and nephews. Taking them on trips, being their sounding board, having weekly meals at my sisters’ homes. I think I will fine in my old age.

It is desperately sad to think of all the intentionally barren women who will find themselves totally alone in their 50s, realizing their irreversible mistake. They will wish they could trade it all—money, vacations, independence, all of it—for children they can now never have.

@WallStreetApes If you know you have take 3 away from 5 to make a 10. Then, wouldn’t you already know 7 & 5 make 12?

American was trying to help her daughter with her math homework. The way math is done now is so complicated she had to ask the teacher to help understand She breaks it down I had to watch this multiple times and it’s just a basic math problem. This is ridiculous

@henrybenedict_X @VigilantFox That’s interesting. I think the lockdown gave everyone time to go outside and walk. That is why so many got dogs during the lockdown.

WATCH: Neuroscientist Andrew Huberman wows Bill Maher’s audience as he breaks down why sunlight is as vital as diet and exercise. Nothing will make you want to step outside for sunlight more than this 3-minute clip. • Getting morning sunlight is “one of the very best things you can do for your sleep, your mood, your wakefulness, for your mitochondria (powerhouse of the cell).” • It triggers melatonin release at night for deeper, natural sleep. • Just 2–3 days of morning exposure boosts energy and immunity. • “And we can actually say that if you’re concerned about longevity, mental health, physical health, that morning sunlight viewing is really the anchor to all of it.”

@Suzierizzo1 Stores are closing because most people are buying all their crap off of Amazon. I love having a beautiful downtown and know in order to keep it I must support my local stores.

We can debate policy all day, but this is the reality teachers live in: Every school has students who can’t go a single hour without derailing instruction, and they’re shielded from consequences at every turn. It’s unjust to those who came to learn. Everyone knows it, but if you say it out loud, you’re the problem.
