UPDATE: The hero of Bondi has been named. He is Ahmed el Ahmed, a 43 year old fruit shop owner who grabbed the gun off one of the terrorists, he was subsequently shot in the leg and shoulder by another terrorist. Praying that his surgery goes well. He is currently in hospital.

For about five minutes, until authorities announced he was being deported. Subramanyam “Subu” Vedam, a 64-year-old Indian-origin man who spent over four decades in a US prison for a m*rder he did not commit, was immediately detained by US immigration officials due to a decades-old deportation order. Subu, who moved to the US as a baby, was exonerated after new evidence showed investigators had withheld key FBI reports that could have cleared him. While the m*rder conviction has been quashed, his prior dr*g conviction, and prior removal order, have not. Despite the removal order dating back to the 1980s, ICE claim it is still active. His conduct in prison, however, suggests more to it – he studied for multiple degrees and mentored hundreds of his fellow inmates, suggesting a somewhat different character than ICE claim. His family and legal team are fighting to stop the deportation, arguing that India is “a completely different world” for a man who has spent nearly his entire life in the United States. #Subu #Indian
