#WATCH | Oslo, Norway | MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George says, "...We are one sixth of the total population of the world, but not one sixth of the problems of the world. We have a constitution which guarantees the fundamental rights of the people. We have equal rights for the women of our country, which is very important...We believe in equality, we believe in human rights...If anyone whose rights are violated, they have the right to go to court...We are proud to be a democracy..."

@ANI Utilizing the constitution and laws to imprison activists and academics, harass individuals, eradicate minorities by demolishing their homes, destroy their businesses, and render them second-class citizens by removing their names from electoral rolls.

I am amongst the voice of the opposition in INDIA & everyday I attack the government on television & social media, am severely critical of the PM & his ministers and no one has ever taken any action against me. I find it offensive you compare my country's press freedom with Emirates or Cuba ! Sure all INDIAN's would want even greater freedom of speech but your comparison of freedom of media in INDIA being comparable with regimes that police FoS is absolutely false & unfortunate! Wish you luck!! @HelleLyngSvends

Primeminister of India, Narendra Modi, would not take my question, I was not expecting him to. Norway has the number one spot on the World Press Freedom Index, India is at 157th, competing with Palestine, Emirates & Cuba. It is our job to question the powers we cooperate with.

Decades ago, Indian pharma company Cipla, led by Yusuf Hamied, defied global pharma so that HIV positive people in India & Africa could afford generic life saving drugs. Today, 60 Indian pharma companies have been caught exporting tapentadol, that is fueling opioid addiction in

After the BJP's takeover, Bengal is behaving like UP. All politicians are talking and behaving as if they were in the UP. Cultural and linguistic imposition can be seen everywhere within a few days. It will be the model state for Hindi imperialist experimentation in the south.

Is Bengal Casteless or Deeply Casteist? The roaring rise of three marginalised Dalit Women in Bengal politics; Rekha Patra, Chandana Bauri and Kalita Majhi has deeply disturbed the “progressive” imagination of Bengal’s upper-caste bhadralok politics. These Dalit women, emerging from backgrounds of Daily wage labour and domestic work, have broken through a political, cultural and social order long monopolised by Bengali Brahminical Upper Caste elites. Their presence in the Assembly directly disrupted the caste class bengali arrogance masquerading as liberalism. Majhi, Patra & Bauri are daily subjected to "class”, “culture” and “qualification” tests to prove their worthiness, respectability and “Bhadramahila” credentials. Their audacity to breach eight decades of Bengal's gatekept polity is facing awful scrutiny that Caste class privileged Bengali upper caste leaders are never forced to endure. Bengal today is revealing an uncomfortable truth: beneath the rhetoric of renaissance, communist rule, secularism and cultural superiority, the Bengali Brahminical order remains deeply entrenched in its institutions, political discourse and social imagination.

@subhajit_n Violence/ clash only happens when the deprive communities challenge the UC dominance. And the frustrated UC feel that they can surpass thier dominance. UC controls everything in WB. Be it politices, educational institute, economy, administration and narrative.

@subhajit_n They won election on hindutva card, supported by hindutva organisation where dalit politics does not have any role rather a just vote bank like muslim politics in INC or TMC. You will never see them in next 5 years talking or fighting for the deprived SC & ST people in WB.
