People acting like Peni's own origin story being Eva coded meant that she HAS to have an Eva coded design... Forgetting/ignoring what Eva is inspired by. There are other designs to draw inspiration from instead of just Evangelion.

This whole "Eva" inspiration being backed up by some collective unconscious feelings towards mecha is why Rival's depiction of Peni feels less cool, and more of a projection of how some people needed Eva to help market mecha designs, not allowing for original designs to flourish.
