@thehistoriann I'm refusing to call LLMs "AI", not refusing to talk about the implications for pedagogy. Lots of conversations within my institution over this. But one big hurdle is the quantity of people convinced against the facts that these tools are going to change the way we do research.

@thehistoriann I don't think it's early days. Autocompleting, generative LMs have existed for decades. What changed is we now have 100 companies trying to convince us to call them "intelligent." I, for one, refuse.

Counting the three people tragically killed on Saturday, there have been 10 roadway fatalities in San Francisco in 2024, putting us on pace for 48 fatalities this year — which would be the most since this data was initially collected and published (2005). We need leadership now.
