@delba_oliveira Wow! TIL. I'd been using the separate translate property to accomplish much the same.

TIL multiple CSS transform functions of the same type are additive. I used it to add a turbulence effect that doesn't overwrite existing or in-progress transforms.

AI "friends" are a poor substitute for real-world friends, but they're still substitutes, not just supplements. Digital connections have already displaced real-world friendships to our detriment. Interactions on social media, Reddit, and messaging apps have, instead of supplementing or sustaining real-world friendships, increasingly served as a substitute for them. Younger generations are experiencing the loneliness and isolation that comes with having fewer actual human bonds -- and cultivating antisocial attitudes and alignments that not only feed into society's growing polarization, but also make it harder for people to form real-world community even if they want to. AI "friends" will only make the problem worse. Zuckerberg is right, of course, that an AI companion will never be able to match a real one. But the "friendships" will certainly be easier! For generations increasingly uncomfortable with social interaction, an AI chatbot that can be regarded as a "friend" will be easier to approach, more likely to affirm you, and less likely to demand anything of you, other than your attention. Actual friends will seem messy and difficult by comparison, and forming new friendships is much harder than striking up a conversation in the Meta app. Sure, those chatting with an AI may still wish for more real friendships, but in the moment, it's just less convenient. In time, people accustomed to fake digital friendships will find it harder to interact with other flesh-and-blood human beings, accelerating a negative trend we're already experiencing. They may not even know that they're lonely (which might inspire them to do something about it) as they succumb to ennui that turns them even more inward, to themselves and their AI friends. It sounds like bad science fiction, to be honest: who would really think of a bot as a friend? But I think we have to assume that many people will, and that they'll be worse off for it.

Zuckerberg explaining how Meta is creating personalized AI friends to supplement your real ones: “The average American has 3 friends, but has demand for 15.”

Apropos of nothing, I just launched Spelt, a daily word farming game! Spelt is a web game about vocabulary, strategy, and pushing your luck. It rewards thoughtful play, but won't outlast your morning coffee. Give it a try, and challenge a friend. Link in the comments.🌾

“Indiscriminate workforce cuts aren’t efficient and won’t fix the federal budget, but they will hurt good people who have answered the call to public service to do important work for our nation.”
Sen. Lisa Murkowski@lisamurkowski

Dozens of Alaskans – potentially over 100 in total – are being fired as part of the Trump administration’s reduction-in-force order for the federal government.   Many of these abrupt terminations will do more harm than good, stunting opportunities in Alaska and leaving holes in our communities. We can’t realize our potential for responsible energy and mineral development if we can’t permit projects. We will be less prepared to manage summer wildfires if we can’t support those on the front lines. Our tourism economy will be damaged if we don’t maintain our world-class national parks and forests.    I share the administration’s goal of reducing the size of the federal government, but this approach is bringing confusion, anxiety, and now trauma to our civil servants—some of whom moved their families and packed up their whole lives to come here. Indiscriminate workforce cuts aren’t efficient and won’t fix the federal budget, but they will hurt good people who have answered the call to public service to do important work for our nation.   My staff and I are in close touch with agency and department officials, trying to get answers about the impact of these terminations. Our goal is to forestall unnecessary harm—for people and Alaska’s federal priorities—but the response so far has been evasive and inadequate.

I get lots of questions about the visuals and animations. If you're interested in that stuff, look no further than @JoshWComeau. I've benefitted enormously from his blogs posts and CSS course. (Thanks, Josh!)

Do you enjoy trick-taking games like Spades, Hearts, and Oh Hell? If so, I'd love it if you tried my latest game Nabber! Each game only takes a few minutes. The rules—a twist on traditional games—are simple, but not easy. I bet you can't get 100%. 😁 Link below.

There's a great video series that shows in detail that –just about everything is CGI –everyone in Hollywood lies through their teeth and claims that nothing is CGI –people believe it because they can't tell the difference youtube.com/watch?v=7ttG90… Looks like gen AI is the new CGI.

Chris Miller says there will never be generative AI usage for the ‘SPIDER-VERSE’ films. “One of the main goals of the films is to create new visual styles that have never been seen in a studio CG film, not steal the generic plagiarized average of other artists’ work”
