These are the very real consequences of such a massive personal information leak. It's not "just like a phone book". This incident puts people's lives at very real risk. Pardon my language, but fuck everyone involved in this leak.

An Edmonton city councillor and his team are helping a woman facing intimate partner violence relocate with her children after her address was leaked in an alleged privacy breach by The Centurion Project, an Alberta separatist group. Others are also dealing with the impact.

@Donsmith524 There was no verification on that app to prove you were a canvasser. Media said they were able to register without any proof they were with the campaign. And that list should never have been made available to anyone outside of the authorized party who initially had it.

@Donsmith524 Putting the confidential electors list on a publicly accessible platform for anyone to see is the definition of a leak.

From telling Stay Free Alberta canvassers to sign up with the Centurion project (i.e. get access to voters list) to boost their impact to claiming to never having had access to the lists. So, did Rath and crew never register for the app? Because if he did, seems he had access.

This is outright fear-mongering at this point, good grief. Fans and players are already disappoined by the outcome of this season, let's worry about 26-27 before we start obsessing over the long-shot "its possibles" for at least 2 years out from now. The team has the power both upstairs and on-ice to make this entire conversation even more irrelevant than it already is.

It’s interesting that our only focus seems to be on what 97 will decide to do, whether that’s this summer or next or whenever. And it’s obviously because he only has a 2-year deal. But I mean, nothing is stopping Leon Draisaitl from asking out one day if that’s what he wanted. Not saying he will nor do I have any feeling he will. But just because he signed an 8-year deal doesn’t mean he will necessarily play it out all in Edmonton.

I share some of Connor's concerns, and I think he's done an excellent job in this interview. I encourage people A) to watch the entire interview and B) not read more into it than what he is saying. I think his messaging says what needs to be said, don't overthink it. I think his frustrations are reasonable. Is his future secure here? No, and he'd be crazy to say otherwise. It's up to management to make decisive moves over the next two seasons (particularly *this* summer) to add some assurances for our Captain. He wants to win. Here. Your move, Org.

The allegation of misuse of Alberta voters lists by separatists would be concerning at any time but it's doubly concerning at this time and on this issue. Political parties are entrusted with a great deal of information. And each piece - each voter contact - on its own, seems almost inconsequential. An address, a phone number - you can still find that in the white pages for most people. But as anyone over a certain age knows, not everyone is listed in the white pages, not everyone’s address is presented. The voter lists also include email addresses, and your presence on it or not strongly indicates citizenship status and other protected information. In 2026, the sheer volume of records is also a risk. That information, particularly in an environment where signatures are collected and then validated AGAINST the list, presents new opportunities to falsify signature collection. We do not know that has happened, to be clear. But Albertans now worry - if there’s reason to believe the data privacy rules were violated, what other rules are broken or bent? The citizen initiative signature acquisition process relies on trust - and for many, trust is now completely shattered. Albertans reasonably want assurances their data is protected. Albertans reasonably want assurances that the signatures captured are legitimate. At a minimum, Elections Alberta and the Alberta Legislature needs to be thinking about how these signatures are audited going forward. They should also consider how Albertans can assure themselves that their name has not been falsely added. This will add cost and complexity to the validation process. Maybe that cost and complexity is not worth it when the question is about daylight saving. But given the stakes of the separatists’ proposed referendum, that is a necessary cost. I also hope and expect, as an Albertan, that the authorities are on top of this. It is important that violations of our election laws, if any, are addressed - and that any loopholes that exist are closed, and trust is built back into the citizen initiative system.

@SPhillipsAB @Frazzling @ElectionsAB What I want to know is what happens if (hope to God it never does) someone is tracked down and hurt or worse because they got access to the victim's information through this leak. The potential for serious criminality is too significant.

One the biggest - and most consequential - data breaches in Alberta history. Unlawful access and sale of personal information by separatists. @ElectionsAB was warned a MONTH ago. I know they’re busy. I know the Elxns Act was gutted by the UCP. Still. Call the cops.
Jen Gerson@jengerson

I warned Elections Alberta about the potential Centurion Initiative data breach on March 31. They did Sweet FA for almost a month. My latest: open.substack.com/pub/theline/p/…

@Nuni_Sas_Yu That was wrong, full stop. But again, false equivalency. He hacked the portal. He didn't leak 3 million pieces of informational data to the entire internet. You can't compare this to anything because this has never happened in Alberta's history.

I’d recommend watching Draisaitl’s entire press conference. People will use short clips to create an angle. Yes, he said he was concerned about them taking a step back, but then he went into detail about why he thought it happened and how they can be better. Very direct, homest and thoughtful responses from a leader. He doesn’t believe they are far away, but they (Mgmt, coaches and players) need to improve in some areas to get back in track. His response about the team maybe taking for granted how hard it is to win and what it takes, all season not just in the playoffs, stood out.
