@ArzamasovAlex Glad you understand the importance and acknowledge the extensive effort required to generate manually curated models that are 'practically usable' in real life applications

Metabolic models are a very powerful tool for studying bacterial physiology. However, in my opinion, extensive manual curation and experimental validation are required to make them useful. A great example of such an approach for 2 bifidobacteria (8/8): nature.com/articles/s4154…

Thread about the importance of manual curation/sanity checks when making genome-scale metabolic models. Since Gardnerella vaginalis is Bifidobacterium in disguise, and I try not to miss a single paper on bifidobacterial pangenomics, I examined the following recent paper (1/8)
ASM@ASMicrobiology

Gardnerella is the primary pathogenic bacterial genus present during bacterial vaginosis. In #mSystems, researchers used metabolic models of the Gardnerella pangenome to identify strain-specific interactions with the vaginal environment. Learn more: asm.social/YS

@vdlorenzo_CNB @OdedRechavi I always believed that a review article in a decent journal is much more visible and and accessible than chapters in edited books, at least based on citations. Authored books, however, still have their own niche.

@OdedRechavi Are typical multi-authored books ever read at all? I have a bunch of chapters—some quite good—but they're never cited ☹️. Other than PR I do not see much value in them or any return of the time invested. My office is decorated with books I contributed to but hardly ever opened 😅
