The SER: JSC’s front row seat to the Moon. 🌕
During the @NASAArtemis II lunar flyby yesterday, the Science Evaluation Room became Mission Control’s science hub, where experts in geology, data visualization, and crew imagery analyze lunar observations in real time. With a scrum team at the center, specialists in the Trench, and direct comms to Flight Control, the SER helps guide the crew as they capture views of the Moon and record key scientific observations. Opened in 2025, it’s JSC’s engine for rapid, mission‑shaping science.

It's not 'tripling' the NASA budget, but a group of Senators are asking appropriators restore the NASA Science budget. Ask your Senators to sign ➡️ planetary.org/advocacy-actio…
The same letter got 103 signatories in the House, including both Republicans and Democrats.

Okay I've seen enough. Triple NASA's budget.

Still on Mars with Curiosity. Still doing awesome science.
Love this recent "MAHLI after dark" image we acquired last month of our drill in the super cool boxwork region:

So proud, so excited. Lauren is such a wonderful person, this is amazing news!!!!!!!
NASA Mars@NASAMars
This week, NASA announced a new class of astronaut candidates. One of them, Dr. Lauren Edgar, has already been to Mars! (In a way.) She has 17 years of mission operations experience supporting Curiosity and other rovers. nasa.gov/news-release/n…

Check out the view from up here! As the Curiosity rover continues to climb the flanks of Mt. Sharp, it has captured an extraordinarily clear panorama of Gale Crater's rim...and even the lands beyond. Details:

If you're wondering why I've been crying over robots on Twitter, it's because these beloved accounts are being shuttered, and a huge joy of my job is going away 💔
Here's NASA's rationale: nasa.gov/social-media/f…
@MarsCuriosity @NASAVoyager @NASAPersevere – it was an honor.

The last image data from NASA’s Opportunity rover was captured seven years ago today on June 9, 2018. #OTD With Oppy caught in a smothering dust storm, it doesn’t show much but noise…and couldn’t even complete a full picture frame.😢

Had an amazing opportunity to attend the premier of @natgeodocs new film “Sally” tonight, and it provided some sorely needed inspiration and hope. Brave people like Tam and Sally change the world for the better. Out June 16 on Nat Geo and the next day on Disney/Hulu+ #SALLYfilm

Recent actions by the US federal government have me really concerned about our future leadership in innovation. I wrote about it here:

This is so exciting.
Some absolutely incredible detective work by members of the @MarsCuriosity science team.

Scientists studying samples aboard the @MarsCuriosity rover have found the largest organic compounds on Mars so far. This raises intriguing possibilities in the search for past life – and bodes well for plans to bring @NASAPersevere's samples to Earth. go.nasa.gov/41TFWV0

Thrilled to share that our team was awarded the IEEE Aerospace M. Charles Fogg Best Conference Paper Award, 05 February 2025 for our work on the autonomous and robotic operations of the @NASAPersevere rover on Mars!

Following successful deployment of NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer from a SpaceX Falcon 9 on Feb. 26, mission operators at @CaltechIPAC received engineering data indicating intermittent power system issues. The spacecraft transmitter went out early Thursday but came on again hours later.
The team is working with NASA ground stations to reestablish telemetry and commanding to better assess the power system issues and develop potential solutions. Updates: blogs.nasa.gov/trailblazer
