Why do most hackers and unauthorized groups use Tor? It’s not because it makes them “invisible.” Instead, it raises the cost of tracking them. Tor routes your traffic through multiple relays across different countries, so the destination doesn’t see your real IP address. This alone disrupts the easiest way for defenders to attribute your actions Now let’s Consider a real life scenario: Imagine accessing a misconfigured API or admin panel from your home IP address. A single log entry later, your ISP, city, and approximate location are known. Now, there’s a trail of evidence. Now, do the same thing over Tor. That trail hits a dead end. Logs point to an exit node shared by thousands of users in another country, making it impossible to link it back to you. This doesn’t btw make Tor “evil”…..Journalists, activists, and whistleblowers all use it too However, for attackers, it removes: 1. Direct IP attribution 2. Easy geo-location 3. Fast retaliation Ultimately Tor doesn’t stop investigations. It simply slows them down by a considerable degree And that’s the whole point Anonymity isn’t about being untraceable, It’s about not being the easiest target in the room. Hope this helps
