Court Jails Man for Naira Abuse in Enugu
Justice F. O. Giwa-Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu State, has convicted and sentenced one Iziga Jude Ikechukwu (also known as Easy-money) to one year imprisonment, for abusing Naira notes during his birthday celebration.
The convict was arraigned by the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on March 26, 2026 on a one-count charge bordering on mutilation of Naira notes to the tune of N81, 700. 00 (Eighty-one thousand, Seven Hundred Naira).
The lone -count charge reads: “That you, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu on 22nd February 2026, at Embassy Hotel Enugu Ezike, Enugu State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, while celebrating your birthday, you danced and matched on the sum of Eighty-one thousand, Seven hundred Naira (N81, 700. 00) notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria. You thereby committed an offence to wit: mutilation, contrary to and punishable under Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007”.
He pleaded guilty to the charge. Justice Giwa-Ogunbanjo thereafter convicted and sentenced Ikechukwu to one year imprisonment from the date of arraignment with an option of fine of N300, 000. 00 (Three hundred thousand Naira). The court also ordered that the sum of N81, 700. 00 (Eighty-One thousand, Seven hundred Naira) recovered from the convict be forfeited to the Federal Government through the Commission.
The convict, 24 year-old palm kernel dealer was arrested on February 28, 2026 at his residence located around timber market in Enugu-ezike, Enugu state, by operatives of the EFCC following an actionable intelligence received via a viral video circulating on social media in which he was seen recording himself, while abusing Naira notes in his hotel room, during his birthday celebration. Alleged N1.4bn Oil Fraud: EFCC Re- arraigns Nadabo Energy Boss, Ali Peters, Firm in Lagos
The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, re-arraigned Nadabo Energy Boss, Abubakar Ali Peters, for an alleged N1.4 billion oil fraud before Justice Ismail Ijelu of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.
Peters alongside his company, Nadabo Energy Limited, was previously standing trial before Justice C.A. Balogun of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.
However, the matter was re-assigned to Justice Ijelu, following Justice Balogun’s retirement.
The defendants are being prosecuted by the EFCC on a 27-count charge bordering on the alleged use of forged documents to obtain the sum of N1,464,961,978.24 from the Federal Government as oil subsidy.
One of the counts reads: "Nadabo Energy Limited and Abubakar Ali Peters, on or about the 3rd day of April, 2012, at Lagos, within the Lagos Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, fraudulently obtained the sum of N978,401,732.09 (Nine Hundred and Seventy-Eight Million Four Hundred and One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty-two Naira Nine Kobo) from the Federal Government of Nigeria by falsely claiming that the sum represented subsidy accrued to Nadabo Energy Limited under the Petroleum Support Fund for the importation of 19,488,992 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which Nadabo Energy Limited purported to have purchased from Ashland SA Geneva Switzerland, and transported the 19,488,992 litres of PMS through MT American Express (Mother Vessel) and MT St. Vanessa (Daughter Vessel) to Nigeria, whereas Nadabo Energy Limited only imported 6,505,140.04 litres of PMS to Nigeria through MT Evridiki (Mother Vessel) and MT St Vanessa (Daughter Vessel)."
Another count reads: "Nadabo Energy Limited and Abubakar Ali Peters, on or about the 25th day of October 2011, at Lagos, within the Lagos Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, and in order to facilitate your obtaining money by false pretence from the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Petroleum Support Fund (PSF), forged a document titled: Certificate of Marine Insurance no. 0047851 and purported the Marine Insurance certificate to have been issued by Staco Insurance Plc to Nadabo Energy Limited."
He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges preferred against him.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, S.K. Atteh, asked for a trial date and also prayed that the defendant be reminded in a Correctional centre.
Responding, defence counsel, E.O. Isiramen, objected to the prosecution’s prayer for the remand of the defendant.
He argued that the defendant was granted bail on December 19, 2012, and had perfected the bail conditions.
He also submitted that his client had never jumped bail since then, and prayed the court to allow the defendant to continue on his existing bail.
Justice Ijelu ruled that the defendant should continue on the existing bail.
The sureties were ordered to appear in court on the next adjourned date to undertake that they would continue to act as his sureties.
The judge also ordered the lawyer to sign an undertaking to produce the defendant on the next adjourned date.
The matter was adjourned till May 19, 20 and 21, 2026 for the commencement of trial.

PRESS RELEASE
CRIME CRACKDOWN IN DELTA: POLICE STORM CYBER FRAUD DEN, ARREST 34 SUSPECTS; ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS, AND RECOVERY OF ONE LOCALLY FABRICATED AND TWO LIVE CARTRIDGES.
The Delta State Police Command has recorded a series of coordinated operations that led to the arrest of suspects, the recovery of firearms, and the disruption of a suspected cybercrime hub.
1.POLICE STORM CYBER FRAUD HIDEOUT, ARREST THIRTY-FOUR (34) SUSPECTS
In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, operatives of the Quick Response Squad led by SP Collins Arrey, on 28 March 2026 raided a location in Opete, suspected to be a hub for internet fraud activities. The operation was as a result of information received from a distress caller who reported that her younger brother sent a distress message that he is being held hostage and forced to engage in cyber crime ( internet Fraud).
The operation exposed an organised network of young suspects operating from a residential apartment converted into a cybercrime base. Thirty-four suspects were arrested on the spot.
Items recovered include 37 laptops, 1 iPad, 7 mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms, indicating the scale and organised nature of the operation. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of their activities.
2.ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER/RECOVERY OF FIREARM ONE (1) LOCALLY FABRICATED, CUT-TO-SIZE GUN WITH TWO (2) LIVE CARTRIDGES
In another development, on 29 March 2026 at about 0900hrs, operatives of Department of Operations, Delta State Police Command, while on patrol along Ogbolu/Illah Road intercepted a tricycle conveying two occupants under suspicious circumstances.
On sighting the operatives, the tricycle rider feigned compliance, while one of the passengers suddenly alighted and fled into a nearby bush in a bid to evade arrest. The suspect was immediately pursued. Upon sighting the operatives, he attempted to resist arrest by attacking them with a wooden object, but was subdued and arrested.
A search conducted on the tricycle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges, confirming criminal intent.
The suspect, later identified as Mustapha Musa (M), aged 32 years, from Kogi State, alongside the tricycle rider, Iyanosor Ogbizi (M), aged 34 years, were arrested and taken into custody. Both suspects are in custody, and the recovered exhibits have been transferred further investigation.
The Delta State Police Command under the leadership ship of CP Yemi John Oyeniyi psc, acipm, mnips, reiterates its resolve to rid the State of all forms of criminality. These operations underscore the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and rapid response to threats. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and continue to partner with the Police by providing timely and credible information.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE
PRESIDENT TINUBU CONDEMNS KILLINGS IN PLATEAU AND KADUNA, ASSURES SECURITY AGENCIES WILL BRING PERPETRATORS TO JUSTICE
President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the barbaric and cowardly attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district, Jos, Plateau State.
He equally condemned the attacks in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Describing the attack on the community in Jos and the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna as an affront to all that Nigeria stands for, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that the barbaric acts will not go unpunished.
"Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward. By attacking soft targets in Jos, their objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting," he said.
He has directed security agencies to intensify all efforts to pursue the perpetrators and those spreading misinformation that can inflame tensions and further endanger lives. He cautioned some sections of the media, insinuating the attacks were religiously motivated.
President Tinubu reaffirmed that security agencies are actively addressing the situation and stressed that public cooperation is vital to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property. He stressed the need for communities to comply with evacuation, relocation, and related advice and processes. He hailed the safe return of two of the Kaduna victims.
“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence. All the remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately", the President said.
"I commend Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State for his efforts in containing the situation in Jos and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for supporting the rescue and containment efforts. I assure the people and government of the two states of my support. I commiserate with the families of those killed and pray for the quick recovery of the injured. Our government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable our security agencies to track and smash criminals, in real time, wherever they are."
