DM: I’m a 3rd yr PhD. I started dating my girlfriend about five months ago. I met her parents recently and they think I should be working and making money. They think I don’t have the drive to achieve and my PhD is useless. I’m honestly so bothered by this. What should I do?

@AnxiousPostdoc @workingbnb @thefellowvoice @_open_science_ @acadconfessions I'm staying put for now, but am exploring other platforms while we wait and see how it plays out. Have started an excel sheet to figure out the different platforms here (twitter.com/CouragePhD/sta…) if you want to take a look/contribute thoughts?

Hi folks! Was chatting with @theADHDacademic how overwhelming the #TwitterMigration is with the different platforms, and agreed a crowdsourced excel sheet would be helpful. Can anyone contribute more info or suggestions of what to consider/platforms? TIA! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…

Academia is sometimes too focused on doing things at speed, to "get things done". It might be one of the reasons why there's a tsunami of junk/questionable work published on a daily basis. A focus on slowing down with an emphasis on quality over quantity might be beneficial.

Anyone else having this problem? Do you also believe that strong basic foundation is essential to be able to call yourself an expert in one field? Let us know!

"They also challenge general/standard definitions of international societies, and try to force me to believe in the own concepts. It is quite frustrating."

How can you be an expert in something when you don't have the foundational concepts and terms sorted out? "I came from a foreign country where we were thoroughly taught about basic concepts and terms in a field of study."

@acadconfessions I am so sorry to hear that, that sucks. Academia can be a nasty beast under a beautiful mask. Please stand your ground and call it out. Nothing will change if you keep silent. There should be offices to support you as well.

"I am non-white foreign researcher in one European country. I only received humanly treatment from my co-workers after publishing 3 papers with them. I guess this is how they are in Europe? One still calls me a student, not a colleague (her own words)."
