An impassioned plea has been issued for two elderly households in Newbridge, Kildare, who are currently facing extreme hardship after being unable to access state support. Soc Dems Cllr Chris Pender has highlighted two specific cases where residents have "fallen through the cracks" of government grant schemes. One elderly woman is currently living without any form of heating. Her chimney has been deemed structurally unsafe and must be rebuilt before a fire or heating system can be used. Despite the critical nature of these repairs, the households shamefully do not meet the specific, rigid criteria required for current Housing Adaptation Grants. A parent who is a wheelchair user may want to go with their kids & partner. I may want to bring Jack & his sister. We should be able to book together because we are all Equal. The way I was spoken to by the manager was unacceptable.
