Hochul says she “grew up in a union family, “ but her father was an executive and did white collar work before that . Not “Steelworker” work. Hochul’s claims of growing up in a trailer park are also provably ridiculous . She was raised in financial comfort . She should stop gobshite-ing average, everyday New Yorkers with tall tales of nonsensical rough and tumble beginnings . Right. Always blame the @MTA workers who dare to want to stay ahead of this affordability crisis in one of the most expensive areas to live in the country. Annual raises averaging about 3.5% over four years is entirely reasonable.
@GovKathyHochul’s MTA wastes tons of $ on poor planning, construction cost overruns, consultants, and a $1,500 an hour, hired-gun lawyer for @LIRR negotiations - when it has an entire Labor Relations Department already on the payroll. But some efficiency twits and corporate mouthpieces focus on the people actually doing the work for austerity, not those with the corner offices overlooking the city from which they enrich themselves. Take a hike.
By the way, two Presidential Emergency Boards that investigated said this: “At no point in the PEB hearings did the Carrier assert that there was a financial inability to pay for reasonable wage increases that were otherwise found to be appropriate. Unlike a number of prior periods,

I am usually pro-labor but the LIRR strike is absurd they’re already the best paid agency in the country, with average total comp of over $200K, and now they’re refusing a 4% raise? This is a perfect example of why US transit is so inefficient!

Thomas Caputo made over $460,000 in 2018 as a foreman. 120K salary + 340K as overtime.

It will be super helpful and very wise for the @LIRR Unions to set up picket lines at Bay Shore, Hicksville , Mineola, Huntington and Ronkonkoma LIRR Stations . These are the locations which @MTA has listed as staging areas for shuttle buses that the bosses intend to deploy in an effort to break the strike. Visible picket lines will give workers and riders alike an absolute indication and reminder that the strike is in effect , and that for several reasons , should not be crossed. Hopefully @GovKathyHochul will come to senses , realize she’s supposed to be a Democrat , and settle this contract by withdrawing her demand for a Zero % wage increase and gimmicky lump sums. @NYSAFLCIO @LIFEDofLABOR @CentralLaborNYC

Here we go again. @GovKathyHochul’s @MTA has once again hired destructive lawyer Gary Dellaverson who caused the 2005 @twulocal100 NYC Transit Strike. Now, he’s playing dangerous, foolish games with @LIRR unions. With 2 days to go before a strike deadline, he’s demanding a 0 % hourly wage increase for 2026, with a gimmicky lump sum payment instead of a real raise.
