Martha, a homeless woman living in Seattle’s Cheasty Park, overheard the fight and gunshot that killed 35-year-old Miracle McKenzie two weeks ago. She walked me through his camp, recounting what happened, and didn’t hold back about the cartel activity and women being trafficked in the area. She says everyone in the homeless neighborhood knows exactly who the shooter is… but no one will talk. At its core, this humanitarian, environmental, and public safety crisis is rooted in drug addiction. The solution isn’t simply more housing, it’s prevention, intervention, treatment, and housing contingent on recovery.

My great grandmother lost her only son who went to Vietnam as a teenager. At 19 his life was taken, far away from home. The sacrifice that American families made throughout the generations can never be forgotten.

For me, Memorial Day is when I get to publicly honor AW2 Chris Will and the rest of the Bullet 10 crew that were lost off the coast of San Diego. It's been 19yrs but the sights, smells, and emotions of that day all live on in my memory 🫡🇺🇸 🚁

Good rainy morning from Arlington National Cemetery. Specifically, the final resting place of your hero husband Staff Sgt. Alan Shaw. His grave now has some fresh roses placed in front of it, alongside two American flags, a reminder that Americans truly appreciate his sacrifice. Aaron has been gone for about 3 1/2 years now. I always think about him on Memorial Day and this photo I took of his tattoos. He’d tell me the story of the names on his arms every time I asked. He’d get choked up and I would listen and hide my own tears. I like to think of him being reunited with his friends whole and healed.
