Torrenting is just a file transfer protocal. Why would it be illegal?
Nav Toor@heynavtoor

You think torrenting is illegal. The U.S. Library of Congress disagrees. So does NASA. So did Twitter's own engineering team back in 2010. qBittorrent is the free, open-source, ad-free, no-cloud, no-subscription torrent client that the rest of the internet has been quietly using for 14 years. 37,661 stars. GPL-2.0+. Pushed today. Here is the wildest part: You: "Isn't BitTorrent a crime?" Hollywood: "Yes. We spent 25 years and billions of dollars proving it." You: "So who actually uses it?" Internet Archive: "We do. Millions of files. Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Blender and LibreOffice all ship through us via BitTorrent." NASA: "We host our Ultra High Definition footage on the Internet Archive as torrents." Twitter Engineering, 2010: "We deploy code to our entire datacenter over BitTorrent. We named the system Murder. Nothing else is faster." Facebook Engineering, 2010: "Same." You: "So what is illegal?" Hollywood: "Downloading our movie. Not the protocol. Not the app. Not the seeding. Just our movie." You: "What does qBittorrent cost?" qBittorrent: "Nothing. No ads. No premium tier. No telemetry. Forever." Netflix Standard is $19.99 a month. Disney+ no-ads is $15.99 a month. HBO Max Standard is $16.99 a month. Spotify Premium is $12.99 a month. Google One 2TB is $9.99 a month. Dropbox Plus 2TB is $11.99 a month. That is over $1,000 a year to rent files that disappear when the contract ends. qBittorrent is $0 a year to move any file you legally own, between any two computers you legally own, at the speed of every seed on Earth. 100% Opensource. 100% Legal. 100% Yours. Hollywood spent a quarter century calling this a crime. NASA uses it to ship Mars.

@HaythamKenway99 @AustinHoney30 Welcome to politics. Wasted money is "the last guy's mistakes", currently spent money is the "bold new plan", regardless of whether those 2 plans are the same plan with different bill passing dates and different projected end dates

@SOPHONTSIMP "we will never achieve FTL, it's not possible" is the anti-intelectual sentiment that needs to be quashed to achieve it. We have to keep going and trying to do it or else we risk stagnation. You're just as bad as the "man won't fly for a million years" guy from 1903

@AustinHoney30 How is he going to do it 'on budget and on time' if it's already way over budget and long past the time it was supposed to be completed?

@nocontextmemes What does estrogen mean? Is it literally just an estrogen pill or does it fully turn you into a woman? Anyway, middle, top right, and bottom left (assuming "favorite drink" is defined as "the drink that would taste best to you right now")

@Hamphield @skylermzx If you purchase a CD and give that CD to a friend, it isn't piracy. Likewise, torrenting the content of that CD is the exact same action. The illegal part was done by the person who took it from the CD to the hard drive, nobody who torrented it technically did any wrong

@skylermzx Qbittorrent and all other torrent protocols are effectively the same as your buddy handing you a USB. If they purchased a software and shared it with you via that USB, it wouldn't be illegal or piracy, hence why that same action via torrent is perfectly legal

@accuweather Red wins by a minor margin, with blue right at its back. Orange claims 3rd only because of the Appalachian mountains, which narrowly beat out the fact there's very little going on there. Without those mountains, yellow would take 3rd because it actually has stuff going on

@PiosChuck @DaltonHotTakes Colorado is plenty enough alone to beat out the Dakotas and MN. Colorado alone beats orange and yellow handily, but it takes almost all the reds to beat out blue. Gotta go red

@BarbraWyre For the argument, let's put a number on 'control'. Someone with a control of 5 would never be able to metalbend the armor of someone with a control of 10. Likewise, 2 5s fighting might be able to control each other's armor, but likely not much else at the same time

@SmilodonnaVT That's the thing, they do them automatically here too. They just ALSO force you to do it yourself. If you guess wrong, you either pay too much or you go to federal prison!

in finland the government does this automatically! you just let them know how much you make (most of it they find out through salary slips without you needing to tell but if you're self-employed you gotta give em a number) and they'll calculate your tax return for you!!
