#TeamCSIR is currently attending the two-day Southern Africa regional GMES and Africa and MarCOSIO stakeholder workshop hosted by the Benguela Current Convention (BCC) at the Roof of Africa Convention Centre in Windhoek, Namibia. The CSIR anchors the Africa Marine and Coastal Operations for Southern Africa (MarCOSIO) project under the auspices of the GMES and Africa. Consortium partners are unpacking discussions around the titled theme ‘Harnessing Earth Observation technologies in Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem for sustainable marine management’. Today, 17 June 2025, is Day 1 of the GMES & Africa Southern Africa Regional Stakeholder Workshop, co-hosted by the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) and #TeamCSIR, at the @CSIRICC. Under the theme “From data to impact: Earth Observation and Space Technology Solutions as a Catalyst for Enhancing Africa’s Policy and Economic Transformation”, the workshop is attended by regional partners and stakeholders from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The CSIR anchors the Africa Marine and Coastal Operations for Southern Africa (MarCOSIO) project under the auspices of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security and Africa (GMES and Africa).

Prof. Shemdoe, accompanied by Dr. Ismael Kimirei, Director General of TAFIRI, officially opened the workshop — setting the stage for a week of powerful discussions on how Earth Observation, digital technologies, and community-driven innovation can transform small-scale fisheries.
