Police Detective Shot Dead: Oakford - KZN A female Police Detective was shot and killed at a residence in Oakford, KwaZulu-Natal, this afternoon (Thursday). Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from residents reporting that a South African Police Service (SAPS) Official was under attack. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and converged on the property at approximately 13:51. On arrival, Officers found an elderly female seated outside the kitchen entrance of the home. A neighbour directed First Responders into the residence. Inside the house, the Detective was located lying in a prone position between the kitchen and living room. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was found in a pool of blood. Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene. According to witnesses, the female arrived at her mother’s residence in a white BMW 320D shortly before the incident. She left the vehicle door ajar while offloading food and entered the home. Two (2) unidentified males allegedly followed her inside. Multiple shots were thereafter fired. The suspects then exited the house and fled in a white SUV. The Detective’s elderly mother was inside the residence at the time of the shooting. She informed Reaction Officers that her daughter was a Detective at the Point SAPS in Durban - KZN. Officers contacted the Point SAPS, but were unable to confirm if the female was stationed at the precinct. The elderly female was unable to provide further information to Officers due to a recent medical condition. Court documents were located in the deceased’s vehicle. A domestic employee, who was in the bathroom, reported hearing gunshots and found her employer on the floor when she exited. The motive for the shooting has not been established.

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, and his bodyguard Tobias Mugabe Matonhdze are accused of shooting a 23-year-old man in the back during an altercation at Mugabe's Johannesburg home on Feb 19. The victim, possibly an employee, was critically injured. They face charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice (missing gun), illegal firearm possession, immigration violations, and theft (taking a gate remote). Bail hearing set for March 3.
