In court this morning, there was this case where EFCC arrested and detained someone for 16 days. The suspect, through his lawyer, filed a fundamental rights action challenging the continued detention. When the EFCC lawyer was explaining why the suspect had been in their custody, omo… the court sparked. The judge told EFCC: “You people can be lawless sometimes. Why will you detain somebody for 16 days without a court order? That is why you people lose cases up and down.” The court was visibly angry (and honestly, why EFCC go detain person for 16 days? E get as e be). Imagine say the reason for the arrest and detention na because the suspect dey owe somebody one million naira. Since when EFCC become debt recovery agency? Finally, the court gave judgment against EFCC, the police, and the creditor (the person wey the suspect dey owe). The court ordered them to pay ₦1.2 million to the suspect/applicant for unlawful detention. So you see why you should not sleep over your rights. Our judges are still here doing justice and being the hope of the common man. My advice: Stop using police and EFCC to recover debt — it is illegal. If you are arrested unlawfully, tell your lawyer to file a fundamental rights enforcement suit ASAP. E dey help. If you like argue my advice… that one concern you. © Law Parlor

Quietly there's a mobilization happening in the judiciary and nobody is talking. The Judiciary has started something called "Mass Trial" Of inmates. They would gather several inmates with "similar" Offenses and try them... They aquit them but that's where they cut them the deal. "You would be fully acquited if you swear to mobilize and ensure the APC has your votes, the way and manner or you'll be back..." This started last week and we are silent. Rise up and reclaim your country!

My friend called me this morning to come pick her up from her fiancé's apartment. She sounded so down on the phone, and that worried me. I asked her what the issue was, and she told me that her fiancé had just called off their engagement. She has been dating this man for three years, and just two weeks ago, they got engaged. Last week, she told me she was going to visit her fiancé's parents and would be spending a few days there. As planned, she went for the visit and from our conversations, things had been going smoothly until last night. She told me that her fiancé's mum asked her to peel yam and prep for pounded yam. While she was peeling, the woman kept coming into the kitchen frequently to check how she was doing it, which made her very uncomfortable. At some point, she told her soon-to-be MIL that she was fine, but the woman replied, "You know you Gen Z children only know how to prepare noodles. Some of you don't even prepare that well." She then told her that the peeling was not satisfactory, though she said she did fair. When the yam was ready, she reached for the electric yam pounder, but the fiancé's mum brought out her mortar and pestle and asked her to use that instead. My friend politely declined, explaining that she doesn't pound yam manually. But the woman insisted that she had to. After much back and forth, she reluctantly picked up the pestle and tried to pound, but halfway through, she was exhausted. The woman kept insisting that this was one of many tests she had to pass to be considered fit to marry her son. In the middle of all this, the son walked in, and the woman began complaining to him, saying he had brought home a Gen Z woman who could neither peel yam properly nor pound it manually. She tried to explain to her man that she had tried her best but was simply not used to it. The mum told him on the spot that if she could not pound the yam, she would not be endorsing the marriage. Her fiancé then told her that she had heard his mother, and that there was nothing he could do. Apparently, his mum has the final say in his life. His dad is late, and he is the only child. She told him she could not pound. He said if she didn't do as his mother had said, he would have no other option but to call it quits. My friend handed him the ring right there, went straight to his place, packed her things, and called me to come pick her up. Do you think she should have tried to pound some more?
