The uv build backend is now stable, and considered ready for production use. An alternative to setuptools, hatchling, etc. for pure Python projects, with a focus on good defaults, user-friendly error messages, and performance. When used with uv, it's 10-35x faster.

@Mr_Karmeck @echoLogin While selecting specific text from a dialog like is not possible, but pressing ctrl + C when such dialog appears would copy the entire text content of that dialog. Then paste that anywhere you want.

@bdsams Here is how to change it: Click on File (on the desktop app) and click on options at the bottom. In the settings panel, click on Advanced tab and under File Open Preference, choose Desktop from the dropdown.

There needs to be a universal checkbox for "never, ever, ever (ever) ^ ever, open an Excel doc in the browser or Teams window"

Microsoft has invested $10 billion+ into OpenAI and the first desktop app they release is for macOS because it's "prioritizing where our users are." Ouch. It plans to launch a Windows version later this year

@FilmLifestyle I personally get torn between standing out with my piece while it being good enough to ship and making sure that the piece represents 100% of the efforts I could put in it. Stopping and moving on to the next piece is something I need to figure out.

Don’t get stuck in the Prison of Perfection. As a creator, this was a real problem for me for years. I’d struggle to release things, because I just couldn’t stop polishing them, finessing them. Like a painter, I just couldn’t put down the paint brush and call it done. It was like this whether it was: - A video for a client - A piece of writing - A page on a website - A marketing email Over time, I learnt that I had ridiculously high standards and like most creators I was chasing an unattainable perfection. It’s just not worth it because you end up not producing anything for fear that it’s “not good enough.” The solution: just ship. The results: people would tell me that something was great. It surprised me, as these were often the very same things that I believed were “not ready.”

2021. By this point I had a more formal standing desk. You could drop this one down to just above desk height. And then up to a range of heights for standing. Pretty efficient! I'd finished most video production work by now and my sites were 100% of my attention. This was actually the last year in this house as we sold and moved to a much bigger place in Sept 2021. There's actually a crazy story for another thread here: the buyers of our house tried to claim this 3rd floor office (which was a loft/attic extension) was not a room (due to lack of exact building regs) and tried to drill us down by taking £55,000 off the house price at the last minute (3 days before completion on the sale!) It's story for another day, but managed to save the sale (and therefore our purchase of the next house) and get our real asking price.

Over the last 30 days, I’ve removed 8,681 of my followers. I did this to improve my engagement metrics here. As I’ve had this account for a long time (more than 10 years), I’d built up a lot of spam, fake and bot followers. Or those who are otherwise inactive and not contributing to my growth here. I did this using the Remove As Follower button on profiles that were deemed spam/fake/bot accounts by Circleboom. I have a couple of posts here where I go through this process and how I automated it. It’s early days, but I’m hoping doing this vastly increases my engagement and connection with my audience here. Yes, many people won’t do this because they like vanity metrics like follower count. But if you have a large % of followers that are inactive and aren’t doing anything for you, what is the point of keeping them as followers? Worse, they will be dragging down your important engagement metrics ratio here on X. Time for more of you to cull. Let me know how you get on. What do you think?

@ccmexec Interesting! My workstation just won’t boot with the newer cert and still use the old PCA one for some reason after multiple reboots. Firmwares, UEFI, apps and any thing that can be updated are all on their latest respective versions. Were you able to do this on your first try?
